It's a deficit when you refuse to speak English in an English speaking country; it's an asset when you learn languages in addition to the native language of your country. Learn English, bitch.

I know immigrants, now US citizens, who have been in this country over 40 years, who speak almost no English, and basically get by speaking Portuguese.
