I can tell that you never lived during the years before polio and whooping cough vaccinations.
I remember when some kid in school came down with polio. The school closed for 3 weeks. When we went back. We found out that 2 or 3 of our classmates had died. It was similar for whooping cough.
But the big thing is that no one has a right to force somebody to put something into his body that he doesn't want there. Nothing to do with medicine, and everything to do with human freedom.
I agree we definitely need more disease in this country!
I agree as long as they isolate themselves and pay for special insurance to cover themselves when they get sick. It’s like the guys that won’t wear helmets when they ride motorcycles. Hey as long as you sign a promise to sit at home and change your own diapers when the head injury you could get makes you a basket case I’m with you but I don’t want to pay more for my health insurance to cover you when your injury could have been avoided with a little common sense.
False. FALSE.
Deaths from “vaccine-preventable” diseases were down 90-95% before vaccines were introduced, due to public sanitation measures, clean water etc
The fact that vaccine proponents claim sanitation benefits as Vaccine benefits is reason enough to do one’s own research on these products.
I am responsible for my own immune system development, and that of my children (until they can make their own decisions). We do NOT live under a scientific dictatorship.
-—yep-—most of these anti’s have no idea what polio was like nor do they have any idea how relieved parents were when the vaccine became available-—
Rand Paul Says Vaccines Should Be Up to Parents, Not Government Feb 2, 2015
You are arguing with an idiot.
All these anti vaxxers are stupid, uneducated fools who are more wrapped up in the gubermint requiring it than what if actually does. If the govt prohibited getting vaccines these same nuts would be demanding they get vaccines as their God given right.
You cant argue with stupid.
I believe better hygiene and sanitation did more.
I disagree. It may have played a role, but modern civilization has given us advantages that seriously lessen the effects of infectious illness. We may be overnourished, but in so being, we are more than adequately nourished. There is much less stress on our systems; less need for physical work, central air conditioning to keep us cool in the summer, and central heat to keep us warm in the window. We have effective disinfectants, and modern, effective sanitation systems.
Our argument, at its core, is about liberty.
Patrick Henry would have been an anti-vaxxer.
Interesting subject and responses, and the first fairly long thread on the subject I’ve seen without serious condescending diatribe and antipathy.
Dresden and the breast-out lactation activist threads next!
Not false. There is no denying that Measles, Mumps, and Rubella are all but gone and this is due specifically to vaccinations. Polio was eradicated in the US because of vaccinations. Tuberculosis is all but gone, again due to vaccinations. Diphtheria is all but gone, again due to vaccinations.
You’ve come to a website that is essentially all about liberty and getting government off of people’s backs.
Why then does our position perplex you so?
Why? Don't your vaccinations work?
“You may be correct of a few things, but vaccinations in These United States have given us decades free from pandemics that used to ravage the population.”
Hyperbole.
Before the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccines all those diseases combined used to kill 500-700 people per year in the US.
And that’s when mothers would go out of their way to ENSURE all their kids contracted these diseases. Measles/mumps/pox parties were the norm when I was a kid.
The 2016-2017 Flu season kill 80,000 in the US alone.
80,000. From the flu. In the US. AT LEAST 100X deadly.
And nobody freaks out if your kid didn’t get the flu vaccine this year.
Some perspective might wash some of the nanny state off you.
That said, only a fool would not vaccinate their kid for polio. The risk of permanent damage if contracted to just too high. Tetanus too.
You already have the freedom to be stupid. If it only affected you I wouldnt care. But it doesnt. It affects everyone around you. THAT is why the law mandates it. Because it affects all of society. Just like drunk driving, etc, it affects the rest of us.
Interesting you should bring that up. Consider the veterinary profession, for which vaccination makes up the bulk of their business. Over the past decade or so they have (collectively) severely reduced their recommended vaccination protocols over concerns about autoimmune illnesses and some cancers. This, in spite of the fact, that vaccination is, as it were, the bread-and-butter of a veterinary practice.
I believe you know nothing of history, are ignorant of medical science and are letting your political opinions color common sense.
