Gillette is celebrating military service members and veterans in its Every Hero Sweats, Some Never Show It" ad campaign to spotlight the lesser-known challenges many face once they transition to civilian life.
In a short film, the deodorant brand highlighted the commitment of service members to the military and their families but also shared many obstacles they face when they retire or enter the private sector.
Gillette wants to celebrate the everyday heroes who persevere through that transition all while balancing the everyday demands of their job, family life, and any number of additional challenges they face, the company said in a press release.
Gillette has teamed up with the nonprofit Operation Homefront to donate an estimated $2.5 million worth of products to military families.
The campaign comes weeks after Gillette received widespread criticism for its We Believe ad aimed at combating toxic masculinity. Critics argued the commercial assumed misogyny is rampant among Gillettes customer base and that it was using a social movement to sell razors.

That is gross. Was the REALLY a commercial?
Why wait for an apology? It probably wont be sincere anyway. Just buy a different razor.
Yeah, it was the softer, kinder, gentler side of the military, wasn’t it? I kept waiting for them to show the guy in combat. But that would have been too toxic for ‘woke’ Jillette.
On a lark, I bought a safety razor and some cheap brush shaving soap from my local drugstore. Bit of a learning curve (I was a bloody mess the first few times), but once I got past that, WOW...incredible results! No more cartridge razors or shaving cream for me!
.
and neither are my blades:
Edwin Jagger razor - $27. 100 Derby blades - $9. Ivory soap - already had some. In 2-3 years, I’ll need to buy some more blades...
Gillette? Who needs ‘em?
My face doesn’t like Derby blades. I use Parker brand. They’re sharper than most any blade this side of Feathers, and at $10.98 for a hundred I could use a new blade every day and only spend three bucks a month.
Another cheap and very easy way to get a decent shave is to buy a "Bump Fighter" razor (under $10) and then Gillette Trac 2 compatible cartridges (which run as little as 10 cents a cartridge on Amazon). The twin blade was probably the pinnacle of razor development, if judged by being both very easy to do and very effective. Any fool can use one well and they work as good or better than cartridges with 3 or more blades. I can use them without soap if I want.
At 10 cents a blade or Trac II cart, I change once a week just because I can.
That's what, one blade every week or so? Do you shave weekly? Because most people report that even with high end blades the comfort and sharpness degrades after 3-5 shaves. And Derby isn't a high end blade.
But one thing I've found online is that every man has his own preference for razor, blade, etc. It's a very personal thing.
The reason I use Parker blades is that for such a darn low price I get a very sharp blade, and I need a sharp blade because I only shave every few days. In fact, the reason I switched from those multi-blade Gillettes in the first place is because they pull my beard.
I read Feather blades are the sharpest you can buy.
Too late. I'm with Harry's.
They showed their true face and now they've put on their lyin' one to try and save their brand. It sucks to be Gillette.
That is a cool picture. But I don’t use a double edge razor because of the savings, although that was a pleasant surprise. I went to them because modern style razors are uncomfortable for me.
About the photo. Back then that contraption was even more ridiculous. The advantage of the safety razor was that you didn’t have to sharpen the blades.
It is just too late. I will never buy Gilette again just like I will never buy Kelloggs again.

Switched to Schick shortly after the “Toxic Masculinity” crap....had 2 Gillette blades left and when the last one is done, the handle goes in the trash with it....BTW, been alternating to “get used to” the Schick and am finding that there ain’t any real difference in the shave feel/quality.
My grandfather had one (WW I vet and POW — for Germany). I think my Dad tossed it out when they downsized. Blades didn’t last too long, so it made economic sense to sharpen them when steel was scarce and going into armaments. Totally different era of scarcity. And the safety razor was a still-new invention in the 1910s.
Many also insist on using shaving mugs, shaving brushes and high end soap for shaving. I generally shave with the grain using Ivory bar soap applied and lathered up with my bare hand, then apply Edge shaving gel and do a light swipe against the grain. I also don't try for a 'baby butt smooth' shave. I used to, but the extra work and extra potential for irritation only extends the effectiveness of the shave by a couple of hours. I'm retired, don't go out much in evenings, and could always do a touch up shave if needed anyways.
"I need a sharp blade because I only shave every few days"
I find I cut myself (if at all) on my first pass. Going a couple of days without shaving makes it harder for me. If I do skip a few days, then a Merkur open comb razor does me well...but what REALLY shines for getting the stubble down without irritation is the Bump Fighter razor combined with the Trac 2 imitation cartridges. Going with the grain, with very frequent rinsing, gets rid of stuff & then a single pass against the grain with a DE razor finishes it.
Truthfully, if I could only own one razor, I'd use the Trac 2 style cart on top of a Bump Fighter handle:
The two razors I use the most:
Venus razors are Gillette products. Don’t work well. Then women’s razors never have.
