I was on the way from Virginia to New Hampshire when the hot wind from driving made my lips chapped. I pulled of an exit in NYC and found a small drugstore, with a few thuggy looking guys lounging around.

Not knowing I was using a regionalism, I asked the guy at the counter for some “lip ice,” probably with the broad “i” in ice with what was left of my southern accent.

The counter guy said “what?”, I said it again, not connecting. The thuggy guys began to stir and I got my ass out of there and back onto the freeway, out of there.

I mailed them my razor handle along with a note that said, “stick this up your left-wing ass” when they started lecturing us on “toxic masculinity”. Gillette is dead to me.
