Pot is the only thing I’ve found that relieves my TMJ issues that were caused by an old basketball injury.

Or I could go around all day with discomfort in my jaw and feeling like I have to yawn all the time.

Or did the studies put the cart before the horse. In that those studied were already at an increased risk before the Marijuana use and were self medicating.

These "studies" serve up the correlation-equals-causation junk science the authors should have unlearned in school. But the same FReepers who see through globull warming swallow this garbage hook, line, and sinker - because it fits their preconceptions.

Unfortunately, that sounds fairly typical of those I’ve known to varying degrees. I’m sorry you had to witness such irrationality of someone you loved. It’s hardest to watch the downfall of those one cares for deeply or did at one time.

mental illness does not cause self-medication with illegal drugs.

Instead, use of illegal drugs causes mental illness.

You know this hiow?

In a mid sized city in Iowa I see people smoking weed as they walk to the elementary school to pick up their kids.

Read the entire study yourself.

http://schizophrenia.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Association-between-abuse-of-substances-and-the-risk-of-schizophrenia_2016_October.pdf

The date of onset of substance abuse and schizophrenia was defined as the date of first contact leading to the diagnoses. Psychotic symptoms caused by substances (ICD10: 1x.5, 1x.7 and 1x.8) was not included in the definition of substance abuse, as these diagnoses represent a group with a higher vulnerability of developing psychotic disorder. All individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia less than a year after a registration of abuse were classified as nonabuser.

They DO know the rate of psychotic breaks in the general population. They kinda need that number to determine the increased risk of drug users.

This longitudinal study used the entire population of Denmark born since 1955 because their medical registries are that comprehensive.

They specifically controlled for the self medicating cart/horse issue by not including anyone diagnosed with schizophrenia up to one year after being diagnosed with a substance abuse disorder.

I don’t need to.

I’m familiar personally with marihuana, lysergic acid 25, psylocibin and peyote unlike experts here who only read about it

In my 61 years I’ve only seen permanent mental collapse from LSD

I 100s of lifelong pot smokers who contrary to the freeper knitting league’s canards are neither psychotic or liberal

Some might procrastinate more than I do and I’ve seen some who have an objectionist syndrome personality but that’s all I’ve seen

Psychotic nope.

Are there psychotic folks who smoke pot?

I’m sure there are?

Have you ever gotten stoned or tripped?

I’m sorry I don’t believe for a second marijuana caused Alzheimer’s , I suspect it was more than that.

Have you ever smoked it?

I’m not saying marijuana doesn’t have effect.

It does obviously but most Freepers simply opine from a perspective not borne of personal experience

Not me.

Not since college when my younger brother was diagnosed schizophrenic at 15 with no known drug involvement.

I never actually found it to be as pleasurable as claimed, so the risk/reward ratio didn’t seem worth it.

The truth is we are 50 years into the drugged generations, so there is more data now than ever before and the trend isn’t positive.

That said, I prefer legalization over criminalization because I value liberty over safety and interdiction just creates organized crime and jackbooted thugs in an eternal dance of corruption. Crazy people seem way less problematic to me.

Another 50-100 years they’ll have dna testing and gmo treatments. Or maybe gmo non-psychotic dope strains.

I just follow the science because it’s interesting.

Did not say it caused Alzheimer’s... due to his short term memory issues, he was put on Alzheimer’s medications which worked.

Other than marijuana dude was and is fit as a fiddle. He stopped smoking, and his brain recovered enough so he is not on meds and getting on with life.

Just like cigarettes... some can handle it, others not so much.. its the same with fried chicken too.

Marijuana is not harmless. That is just a fact.

Skunk??

Skunk is artificially enhanced marijuana (through GMO and other treatments). It’s most of what’s on the street now and is much more powerful than the “grass” the hippies smoked in the Sixties. Causes a lot of the psychosis and schizophrenia. Name comes from the fact that the stuff makes you reek like a skunk, the stink travels some distance away. Smokers are sometimes also referred to as skunks or skunkers. A lot demonstrate psychotic and schizophrenic behavior, and often can become quite violent when they are high. They tend to kick and smash at things. The good thing is you can generally smell them before they get too close. But you have permanent brain damage as a result.

I’m a non-drinker, and do not use MJ, or psychoactive substances in general, so have no personal experience...It’s all observational and admittedly unscientific ...More of question really...

I question if ill effects might not be more dose and frequency dependent, and heavy frequent consumers of cannabis may aggravate psychosis in the brains of users already predisposed to the disorder?

Just as there are occasional alcohol users who suffer no ill effects and remain perfectly functional, I suspect occasional cannabis users can do the same...

They’re dying from lawlessness Although I herd people say that the homeless has a 100% drug problem the real problem is Police and courts quit enforcing laws just like the border.

I never said it was harmless

But I’ve never seen it cause Alzheimer’s symptoms

Nor have I heard of such a young person being diagnosed as such and prescribed Alzheimer’s meds which are pretty serious dope in and of itself

Why didn’t they simply ask him to give up pot?
