Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got into a heated exchange with a GOP congressman from Wisconsin after he called the Green New Deal “elitist” during a committee hearing Monday.
Ocasio-Cortez invoked her experience as a waitress while mentioning the water in Flint, Michigan, and flooding in the Midwest after GOP Rep. Sean Duffy mocked her ambitious plan.
“People are dying. They are dying,” she exclaimed. “And the response across the other side of the aisle is to introduce an amendment five minutes before a hearing.”
During the Financial Services Committee hearing, Duffy introduced an amendment to a homelessness bill that would impose “green” standards on the measure.
Duffy introduced the amendment to vote against it — and spark debate about the legislation that Ocasio-Cortez has been championing.
“The Green New Deal is one that if you are a rich liberal from maybe New York or California, it sounds great because you can afford to retrofit your home or build a new home that has a zero emissions, that is energy-efficient, affordable and safe,” Duffy seethed during the hearing.
He added that the US Department of Housing and Urban Development did a study that found that to retrofit all their existing houses to meet the Green New Deal’s standards, it would cost up to $172 billion. see also Ocasio-Cortez slams Republicans as 'climate delayers' after Green New Deal defeat
“It’s outrageous. It’s absolutely outrageous,” Duffy said.

In the beginning of the video she states “I just got health insurance for the first time a month ago.” Just curious if she paid the Individual Mandate Penalty for 2018, I think it applies?

David Horowitz noted on a radio show this morning that the terms of the Green New Deal can only be implemented by a dictatorship as they are compulsory and not subject to refusal.
I don’t disagree with what you say, but the best response is to marginalize her by goading her into appearing unhinged and ranting, rather than “impassioned”, so that independents and others who are not already in the <13% hardcore liberal-socialist category won’t support her ideas.
To use an analogy, there’s little doubt that Alex Jones is impassioned and people who support him think he hits home runs all the time. But the left has succeeded in turning him into a pariah, pushing him so far into the margins that no one wants to even acknowledge he exists, much less support him. That’s the strategy to counter the AOC effect as well.
I’d say that Obama made the rounds and “forced” them to vote “present”. Beside not even showing up when he was a Senator....I believe he voted “Present” 163 times. On important votes, he said he hit the wrong button.

Well, she was probably on her parents’ health care until she was 26, so yeah that leaves a couple years where she would have had to pay the “tax” if she didn’t get her own insurance.
My first reaction is she is gesticulating the way Hitler did in his speeches.
‘where’ are ‘people dying’ from climate change? why are only western countries expected to pay the tab for some mystery solution, while half of the rest of the world is still burning wood for heat and having 6-9 children?
and why isn’t AOC delighted over Venezuela - no electricity, no gas for vehicles, elderly and babies dropping like flys. perfect zero emissions utopia.
