You have to wonder what educational qualifications one must meet to get a journalism degree these days. Can't be much other than being able to print your name. Bet most of them don't even know how to write in longhand, let alone read it.

I did a lot of historical research on the Civil War, as a hobby. Spent quite a bit of time in libraries, historical societies, the National Archives, among the list. Having been born in 1947, we had to learn how to read and write longhand/script. Had I not been able to read longhand, I never would have been able to do the research I did, because every, single record from the Civil War was in longhand.

Here in NJ you’d just see a line of five black men and white women waving the traffic flags (whereas before you’d see one at each “end” of the project to control traffic). They wear their costumes (immaculate hard hats and boots), and stand in clusters watching the white men operate the machinery and hand tools. The costs of these tokens is the unwritten “diversity tax”, and impacts businesses everywhere. I’ve noticed at my job there seems to be a “Y=2X” policy at work, where each retiring old white man are replaced with two females (not much younger) who have been cast off by other companies as useless - and combined they still don’t deliver the same results (but they lighten the load for us real workers because we can shorten our hours to match theirs).

The diversity tax is observed by companies to fend off lawsuits and the government to maintain the façade of assimilation and an integrated workforce; no amount of pushing or incentives is having the desired outcome in terms of diversity at the top of any fields that aren’t traditionally female. Without government intervention (either government jobs or mandated diversity for contracts), the workforce in this country would be white and Asian men by a large majority.

But that actually is the issue.

At least it was in Boston during the “Big Dig” taxpayer funded boondoggle that went billions and years over budget and deadlines.

Along with the general corruption and fraud that exploded the costs, you had ridiculously overpaid union labor that was still overwhelmingly white in large part, yes, as a legacy of racism combined with the nepotism by which you had to know, but more likely be related to, someone in the union to get into the union.

Lots of low-skill black men who actually lived in Boston could and should have been taken into apprenticeship and entry-level positions by which they could have learned real skills and got on the wrung to continued, mid-wage employment.

But that didn’t happen. The featherbedding of longtime union nests left those Bostonians and their families who should have gained from the flow of federal tax dollars into Boston out in the cold.

Good Grief! What is the problem here? Construction workers are nearly always men and Syracuse is a northern city. I am beginning to think these idiots will not be happy until everyone of Caucasian ancestry is dead. Also, other than being able to use a hammer and a screwdriver, most women do not want to be construction workers, nor are they capable because of the lack of sufficient physical strength.
