IOW, a few contractors don’t want to get in trouble hiring illegals. Now, they are in trouble for not hiring illegals. Can’t win.
I have some familiarity with the construction of the Roswell Cancer Center in Buffalo back in the 90’s.
Work was already underway with largely white contractors when the Jesse Jackson types in New York State politics started pitching a fit about this. They were forced to rebid the project and replace the (competent) white contractors with minorities.
Meaning they were running hither and yon and hiring any minority candidate who could spell “shovel”. The project turned into a giant fustercluck after that.
So is the Congressional Black Caucus, the BET channel and Miss Black America. Telemundo channel and Univision are Hispanic. Then there is the Asian American Journalists Association and the National Association of Asian American Professionals. And the Muslim American Society doesn’t include any WASPs. Hellary was supposed to be the first female to break the ceiling in 2016 but nooooo, a white man stole her job just like all these white construction workers have stolen these jobs. Spike Lee is right, there’s too much gentrification moving from the ‘burbs.
File suit against the unions. They are the ones who hire.
When you want a job done you have to go to the people who can do it.

Thanks for your insight. So basically they’re simply filling quotas in order to keep trouble away from their doorstep. I’ve seen plenty of blacks and females holding flags in construction areas. I live in a small city in central NY State, and it happens here too.
This has been going on for decades. Back in the 70s I was familiar with a large company that set up a fake corporation with a black president in order to secure a big contract for service at the Atlanta airport. It would have been obvious to anyone who did a little investigating.
To tell you the truth, my mother was Dutch.
When they built a new bridge across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis to replace one which had collapsed they hired a contractor who worked it 24/7, who paid a lot of overtime to licensed tradesmen and engineers who completed it early and did a fine job of it. Beautiful bridge and he earned his early completion bonus.
If there is racism issues with a local union go after them. Don't shackle a contractor who is getting a job that needs to be done with social welfare notions.
Sure; often done with husbands/wives as well (though you really have to trust your wife to do that) - and that is one of the reasons blacktivists want white women off the list of preferred victims that deserve these de facto reparations.
Syracuse has a really impressive monument to Christopher Columbus. And Syracuse is the first fixed location of Dinosaur BBQ. OTOH, one of the landmark churches in the downtown area was converted to a ****ing mosque.

Yes; in fact, for decades now, workforces on such projects in NYC had to be 51% “not white guys” - and the tokens knew it. They’d show up not to work, but because they knew the crew needed 51% “otherized tokens” - and didn’t do sh!t.
I remember a brawl broke out at one site between blacks and Hispanics because both wanted the freebies...
I can understand that. I worked in uniform in NY State prisons for 25 years, and saw first hand, the animosity that existed between blacks and hispanics. Back then, the black prison population was way higher than hispanics, but that has definitely changed over the years. That's why it's so interesting to watch the Democrats toss aside the blacks, to get the hispanics on their side. It isn't going to end well.
I can think of no aspect of life where Hispanics haven’t supplanted blacks as the “minorities du jour” - in the workforce (a more motivated, less litigious workforce), public housing (swelling numbers due to both higher birthrate and daily reinforcements from the Third World), prisons (as they wrest control of another - the drug trade), and political office - if they aren’t there yet, they will be. On obstacle to the last one is that they are not a monolithic bloc of outstretched palms; they tend to vote more as free thinkers than the ministers’ herds of publicly-depenedents.
The issue isn’t racial quotas, it is the unfairness of the union strangleholds on construction projects, including taxpayer funded construction projects.
And while we are at it, paying for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled manual labor in inner cities, we sure ought to be considering the bigger picture of what is the most cost effective way of getting the job done correctly.
I would unshackle contractors from unions in general, myself. No reason for poor Joe Average to subsidize those guys through special legislation giving unions such a firm grip on our government (or private sector) spending.
Oh, and if it is good policy for taxpayers to train inner city men while they are getting their construction done, but a contractor doesn’t want to help deliver that to the taxpayers, then the job should be given to another contractor.
I meant the Onondaga. My wife is from Camden NY; her brother loves going to the Turning Stone.
I’m from Rochester, NY originally, lived in Auburn, NY for a little over 3 years, but have lived in the Rome/Utica area for the bulk of my adult life. I meet my friends who live in Phoenix, NY at Turning Stone once a month for the buffet and penny slots. I only live about 15-20 minutes from Turning Stone.
My Brother in law seems to be the NAPA autoparts mini empire business emperor in little towns all across the Mowhawk valley including some in your neck of the woods.
My local NAPA store is awesome.
They have a couple old counter guys who actually used to be mechanics.
Way more knowledgeable than the min wage drones at the other chain parts stores.
