Maybe, and liberals who also own guns should take note, maybe we should be more practical, and just stop putting into office the human filth that wants to erase the Constitution? That would be much easier, and doable.
The “reality” is that it only takes a very few people to defend their rights to the death, and the “government” begins to collapse. And I know people, older, retired, without children, who are ready to take that step if it ever comes down to it.
Alexander Solzhenitsyn discussed this in his book, “what would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?”
I agree. Americans of past generations were willing to take a hill or die trying. It would be interesting to see the number in this generation that would be willing to do that. It appears to me that many would like the hill being taken as long as someone else does it.
I agree that comfort and convenience, as well as a desire to protect their families from the consequences of defying the tyrants will cause many many to knuckle under. However I am encouraged by the low compliance on turning in "high capacity" magazines, and registering "assault rifles" in repressive states.
If, god forbid, it comes to a shooting war between us and them, casualties on both sides will be horrific. A new nation may emerge, but the nation as we know it will be gone. However, it might just be possible for freedom to survive.
And death it would be, against a SWAT team. But why send a SWAT team when they can wait until the target's not at home?
A bureaucrat's 10-year-old child could plan a successful abolition of gun ownership, 100% bloodless. It's all in the process. (Examples: Difficult case? Take the guns while the owner's at work. Impossible case? Take the kids while they're in school, then take the guns while the owner's in court.)
Education and voting -- changing minds and electing people who support gun rights -- are necessary. And the trend doesn't look like it's going our way.
I see a lot of internet posturing and braggadocio on this subject, but given the reality of history, would hold out little hope of very many gun owners actually defending their arsenal to the death.
We recently had an incident at our business that necessitated a large police presence, including a SWAT team. My thought on seeing these guys and their real assault weapons, made me think that if the order went out to confiscate everyone’s guns, I wonder if all the braggadocio I read on this site and other conservative sites would be a nothing but a whimper. How many would take up arms against these heavily armed and trained people? There’s also the theory that many of the police would not obey an order to confiscate law-abiding gun owner’s guns. I wouldn’t bet on that scenario either.
See the American Revolution for some historical perpective.
