A former President might have been tempted to do this, but not Trump; his proclivities are elsewhere.
Fallows drove across America with his wife trying to understand.
The media elites cannot define Trump.....he defines himself.

It is darkly comical how our ever-so-sophisticated elites cant understand a simple idea like putting American interests first.
Its not that they cant understand the idea; they cannot tolerate the idea, because theyre elites. Elites must have the control and power over us. Period.
That President Trump won, because of us voters off the MSM/school indoctrination/SJW plantation, is horrifying to them. And theyve got to fix this, whatever it takes impeachment, big lies, judicial overrides, propaganda storm, rigged voting, whatever.

Love It!
So the author points out that analyzing PDJT as a politician is a mistake, s/he tries to analyze him as a Hollywood type. Same mistake. Try doing it under The Art of the Deal. The DMZ visit was a masterstroke, keeping open the lines of communication. Sure, Rocketman will use the propaganda value but what did it really cist us, besides jet fuel? Nothong, when you consider the prize.
The author of this piece cannot understand, because his worldview is that politics is all about amassing power and wealth at the expense of the people. A President who really cares about the people and promotes the will of the electorate is so completely foreign to him that he may not even be capable of understanding the concept of by the people, for the people.
I would suggest to him to get out of his liberal elite enclave and meet and talk to ordinary Americans. Once he achieves understanding of the people, he will understand the President.
James Fallows is a fallible fool. His wisdom is an illusion. He just hasn’t figured that out yet.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
They are too ignorant to understand.
Funny, those of us who actually worked and did useful things understand him completely.
Only wimpy mental failures such as politicians and journalists seem to have trouble with a real man.
the horrors of migrant detention-camp conditions..
3 hot meals a day, free medical care, free housing, free legal advice, free cable tv....why its positively North Korea.

I’ve mentioned this before and I read of it in a piece about Trump and his formula for success. It may have been in one of his books.
What he believes is you will never be a winner if you are afraid of losing. This ties in with what he has taught his children as they were growing up and that is to set a goal and never give up fighting to attain that goal.
Apparently that one doesn't fit but this one is 'close'...
"One time I snuck a ball on with me and when I went to winding up, I threw one of them balls to first and one to second. I was so smooth I picked off both runners and fanned the batter without that ump or the other team even knowing it."
....Satchel Paige...
You raise some good points.
As a lifelong student of history, I have been racking my brains for a time on our history when the ruling elite was more arrogant, ruthless, self-dealing, and contemptuous of all those who don’t know the “secret handshake.”
The concept of noblesse oblige seems entirely foreign to them.
The Democrats are disrobing in public...
I didnt really need that image before breakfast. But yo certainly do know how to make a point.
Best,
