He understands the "natural born Citizen" mandate in our Constitution. And, by virtue of the 12th Amendment, the VP must also be a "natural born Citizen."
Nikki Haley, while a citizen, is not a natural born Citizen as her parents immigrated in 1969, and was born in the U.S. in 1972, 2 years prior to the 5 year requirement for her parents to be able to naturalize. She was born in the U.S. to foreign nationals here legally. [1]
Thus, she is ineligible to be VP.
He did while he worked for Trump. He isn't required to anymore.

Mattis being a director of Theranos should have been a great big red flag to Trump right from the get-go if anyone in his administration had been paying the least bit of attention ...

Good. I don't like her and I can't remember the exact incident but I remember she attacked him when he was a candidate. That goes over with me like a Reuben sandwich left in a closed hot car in Death Valley for a week in July.
I like Pence a lot. The way he loyally stands by Trump from the first minute onward has been outstanding. People react in different ways if they perceive being tossed aside--but I believe Trump is going to stay with him despite the impressionable women voters.
One cynic (not me) once said if a candidate parted his hair farther to the side and women didn't like it, the women's vote could change by 35%. Insulting. However, WHY is it allegedly "suburban white women don't like Trump because of his tweets and statements being harsh."?
One line last week on Rush said the suburbs outside Dallas might tip Texas and thus end Trump's chances---due to female voters in polls there.

I only have a pessimistic feeling-—no facts.
Earlier feeling: 2016 that males were secretly, quietly cheering for Trump and would come out to vote for the first time in years. They did.
A suburban trend of women against Trump while their husbands like Trump would be a real concern.
If the women voters see Trump as unlikable, too harsh, too brash and not “nice” it could cause trouble. I don’t think he can turn that around by photo ops, handshakes with likable women, women going on panel shows and so on——because the media are all leftist biased.
They were hostile to Ivanka right away and made her get angry looking rather than cheery by alleging she was a female enabler of a rapist! That was supposed to be a pro-Trump chance to get women to buy-in but couldn’t happen due to the bias. You know any Moochelle interview is adoringly reverent with marshmallow questions in a love fest.
