Gavin Newsom demands PG&E pay $100 to each customer affected by California blackouts

California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants PG&E to give $100 to each of the hundreds of thousands of customers who experienced blackouts last week when the company shut off power to swaths of Northern California.

“Californians should not pay the price for decades of PG&E’s greed and neglect,” Newsom announced on Monday. “PG&E’s mismanagement of the power shutoffs experienced last week was unacceptable. We will continue to hold PG&E accountable to make radical changes – prioritizing the safety of Californians and modernizing its equipment.”

In a letter to the state’s Public Utilities Commission on Monday, Newsom confirmed that the state would launch an investigation into PG&E’s decision to shut off power and its implementation of the outages that left an estimated 2 million residents and 800,000 customers without electricity.

Breathless stupidity.

How long before the state takes over the utility and sets rates based upon income?

PG&E bond holders and shareholders are screwed, as are all rate payers.

Nice idea in theory, but where is the money going to come from?

Highly impractical.

Some very powerful people own PG&E. Gavin would lick their balls.

I predicted this.

Fine ‘em into bankruptcy because they didn’t cut the power when the wildfires flared up, then fine ‘em some more because they did cut the power when the wildfires flared up.

Democratic-socialists always want everything both ways.

There’s a line you don’t see every day around here lol!

But honestly, WTH happened to CA?

It’s like the past 5 years they have FLOORED IT to the left!!

I’m moving to PA in short order and my current home of NY is stepping hard on the gas too.

But EVEN CUOMO celebrated Columbus Day and said he will help get the Mr. Cabrini statue built.

No indigenous day here.

yet

But then there’s a LOT more people of Italian descent here than in CA

Is it me or does this guy sound almost word-for-word like Hugo Chavez.

The exact same pattern. Change all the rules of the game to put companies at a disadvantage to remain an ongoing enterprise. Then vilify them and then demand that government confiscate their property because the business is “corrupt”. Finally, their world is plunged into a Socialistic Hell.

Newsome and Democrats are doing the exact same thing.

Bankruptcy court. Then the Democrats can try to provide their own electricty, Venezuela style. Someone needs to sue the crap out of the state because their decades of “saving the forests” and resisting forest management resulted in the million acres of fuel that was left on the ground.

Wait....I thought Newsome appoints the regulators/commission who, in turn, have made this ‘terrible’ blackouts decision for PGE.

So, just to test my understaning......Newsome appoints the folks who he AGREED with, regarding blackouts for PGE....then, demands PGE pay out millions to those affected.

What a racket!

Are you saying PGE is perfectly fine with this absurd $100/blackout customer payout?

WTH happened to CA?

California is a one party state.

The left control Sacramento and all the large cities.

The left control the news media, entertainment and education.

The left control the unions.

And because I have seen no opposition from Republican I have to assume the left control the Republican party in California.

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” Lord Acton 1887

The Democrats can act on every wild ass idea they can come up with and there does not seem to be anything to stop them.

However, having said that, I am of the firm belief that nothing goes on forever. At some point the irresistible force will meet up with the unmovable objects and everything will change.

I have to agree. This CANNOT go on.

And believe me, IT KILLS ME to have to approve of ANY move Cuomo made.

But it’s more out of HATRED for deblasio than any noble reason.

Gavin, don’t press that button.
As soon as you start talking about free money or punitive damages, somebody will say “$100.00? That’s ‘crumbs!’
How about $1K per person to start with?”

IMO Columbus is the saddest figure in the history of this, or that, continent.

He was totally SCREWED by the royals in Spain.

Oh they gave him tidbits, but then took it all away.

It's not stupidity at all. More like hubris.

Newscum knows very well that the government and environmentalist groups are those responsible for this nonsense, and he puts this crap out there to make sure the blame is aimed directly at those unable to effectively defend themselves.

The outrage is pointed at PG&E, but our government is not held liable in any way, shape or form. And, too many Californians are ready to follow his lead.

Chavez didn't have it this easy, IMO. At least he had to work to pervert his nation's economy. Our state's inhabitants are freely giving him carte blanche to do whatever he pleases, and in the end, it's going to hurt all of us.

Stock price has collapsed from $70’s to under $8 a share since 2017. Bankruptcy seems to be looming. How does Comrade Newsome think PG&E can raise the money for building a safe electric distribution grid? Can’t issue new stock when the existing is almost worthless. Can’t borrow from anyone sane. Newsome needs to get it into his skull that this is going to end up as a state bailout — giving away cash now is insane. Hopefully PG&E will tell him to F himself more than usual.

From the taxpayers. See, what happens is the people are taxed for it then it’s returned by PG&E through rebated bills when CA taxes PG&E or something ....

How about $1K per person to start with?

This is better than $100 per customer. An aprtment building with 20 families would only get $100 but your plan would get at least $20,000 for the people if based on families. And then if there are 60 people living in the apartments that would be $60,000. Hey I am thinking like a give it away dim.
