McConnell: If Trump impeachment trial were held today, 'it would not lead to a removal'
Fox News ^ | November 5,2019 | Andrew O'Reilly

Posted on 11/05/2019 2:59:29 PM PST by Hojczyk

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said on Tuesday that it is unlikely that President Trump would be convicted and removed from office is he were to face a Senate impeachment trial today.

It takes two-thirds of the Senate to convict a president and remove him from office. That means at least 20 Republicans would have to vote to convict Trump if he is impeached by the Democrat-controlled House.

McConnell also questioned whether the six Democratic senators currently running for president in 2020 would want to take time off from campaigning to attend what could be a lengthy trial in the Senate.

“The question is how long the Senate wants to take,” he said. “How long do the presidential candidates want to be here on the floor of the Senate instead of Iowa and New Hampshire?”

Mitch, your Clinton-speak wiggle words don’t fool us. Piss up a rope, please.

“Mitch wants Trump gone.”

Of course he does. The close focus on corruption between China and American politicians WILL expose the dirty dealings between Mitch, Elaine, and Elaine’s parents. The McConnells have been feathering their nest for a very long time.

“Mitch isn’t petty and stupid”

Maybe not, but he IS corrupt. And Trump is draining the swamp. He’s worried.

I don’t trust these Establishment Republicans - the real heroes in this is the Republican base that is forcing the GOPe to support Trump.

The GOPe before Trump was (and still is) all about nation building overseas, open borders for cheap labor and free trade pacts. They ant to return to that.

What’s yer point, Mitch? Are ya’ coaching the Rats? Telling them they aren’t quite there yet, but keep trying? Looks shady to me.

And why doesn’t the body agree with the headline? One sez they WOULD NOT convict, and the other sez they MIGHT not. Sounds like a lead pipe maybe!

No it isn’t that, Mitch is one of those lame ass Republicans, like Jeb and Lamar Alexander, who is terrified of making waves or saying anything definitive about anything. He doesn’t want Trump gone, but he lives his life never being definitive about anything and he’s afraid of his own shadow. It’s why we love Trump and can’t stand these milquetoast, lukewarm cowards. Like Jesus, we spit them out of our mouths.

For those not aware, McConnell was quietly kicked out of the Army for fondling a fellow recruit in the shower. Of course, the records have disappeared or are “off limits.” In short, he’s a big fag.

@ Lodi90..... The same people that are defending TURDle, are the ones that thought Sessions was a 4d chess player. McCONnel would turn on Trump first chance, and the rest of the senate could care less about loosing their seat as they have stolen/laundered billions.

The Supreme Court has no say and will not touch it. They never rule on issues involving rules/conduct of the House/Senate. As it should be. The House/Senate makes their own rules on how to conduct hearings, etc and the SC does not interfere. It is called separation of powers.

The republicans don't run the House, so they have no say in how the House conducts business and can't stop it. The only way to have stopped it, is if the Republicans had won the House in 2018.

A ton of people predicted that if the dems won the House in 2018, Trump would be impeached. And so it may happen.

McConnell isn't going anywhere. It will be tough for the Pubs to keep the Senate in 2020, so McConnell is not going to lose in a primary. The chance of losing an open Senate seat in a general election is much greater than if an incumbent is running. The pubs will be playing defense everywhere in 2020 on the Senate side. The only pick up at the moment is Alabama.

It is time to disabuse yourself of some fantasy.

As long as Trump voters continue to support him, the Left has literally NO CHANCE of getting the 20 Republican votes they need to remove him.

Not even close, for EVERY REPUBLICAN SENATOR knows that their career ends the day they vote to remove Trump...regardless of how much they may despise him.

We waste our time even worrying about it.

Yes, I agree with you 100%. The base is forcing the establishment to at least give lip service to supporting Trump. I think this is the biggest benefit of his rallies - showing the strength of his base to the GOPe.

Bravado? You mean like Mitch “We’re going to repeal Obamacare root and branch” McConnell? Thatt kind of bravado?

The Buckley Rule is dead in Trump Country and you can thank “Republicans” like McConnell and Romney for it’s death.

Thank you for your sensible comment amidst a chorus of bile directed at Leader McConnell.

I’ve said this on a number of threads and I don’t mind repeating it once more:

Mitch McConnell isn’t everything we might want in an aggressive majority leader.

But he’s the leader we’ve got and on certain things he’s done well, mainly judge appointments.

As for him hating Trump and wanting him gone — I’ve never seen anything in his public statements that would give me that impression. And as I am not able to read minds, I shall refrain from drawing such a radical conclusion.
