Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said lunch with President Trump was delightful despite a history of clashing with the president that stretches back to the 2016 presidential primary.
Romney and Trump shook hands at the White House lunch Thursday, and Romney said there didnt appear to be any signs of lingering tension between the two of them, even though Trump slammed the senator last month as a pompous ass.
Romney, for his part, blasted Trump last month for calling on China and Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden as "wrong and appalling.
But the two antagonists were on their best behavior at the lunch meeting, which several other Republican senators also attended, including another prominent critic, Sen. Susan Collins (Maine).
Trump even invited Romney to play a role in an effort to curb vaping products, which Trump has elevated as one of his priorities.
It was a very delightful meeting with the president and vice president and senior members of his staff and several Republican senators. We were able to talk about vaping and considered various options, and each of us spoke about our thoughts in that regard, Romney told reporters after the meeting.
Asked if he or the president acknowledged any of the past tension in their relationship, Romney simply said, nope and added, yes, of course when asked if he shook Trumps hand.
Were friendly and cordial, he said.
ADVERTISEMENT Romney shrugged off Trump tweeting last month that he is a pompous ass who has been fighting me from the beginning.
Thats as accurate as it is irrelevant, Romney joked to reporters who asked him about that pointed comment from Trump.
Thursdays lunchtime discussion at the White House was mainly focused on legislation to lower prescription drug costs.

There was no need to spy on Romney.
He was a willing Designated Loser.
He took a dive.
Lingerment is not a thing in Utah.
President Trump: We know everything. We have photos. Put a toe out of line and so does everyone else...shame on you!
Ah, yes, thats it. Thank you.
Yeah, after the 2nd debate the Obamamites probably stopped their spying. But I’m telling you, it was there in the beginning. The Obamaites weren’t taking any chances.
Of course he will, but he will say “Well, Im still gonna impeach him but he did make my tummy full with good eats” Romney is a pompous ass thats why I never wanted him to be Secretary Of State..Romney does what is best for Romney, no one else
Thats because hes a better man than you mitt. And always will be.
Agree.
I picture him “courageously” getting lots of TV face time when the cowardly GOP agrees on its anonymous trial vote to oust Trump (God forbid).
He will say “I will cast my vote to remove Trump. It will not have to be anonymous for me.”
Maybe Trump offered Romney the plum of being Ambassador to Ukraine.
Trust your instincts
Alpha Male vs. Zeta male.
Pierre Delecto, white and delightsome.
Don’t let Pierre near your dog.
Was Willards dog on the roof...of the car?
I’ll wait for the whistle blower report, thank you very much.
RE: Ill wait for the whistle blower report, thank you very much.
You mean Eric Ciaramela’s report? I thought he already presented it...to Shifty Schiff.
I think more and more people especially a lot of these Republicans in office right now are realizing that Trump is truly a man for his time, and the one and only guy who could be President of the United States right now.
Smart political move with a trial in the Senate looming. Trump has amazing instincts.
Of course not. I need the whistle blower report on Mittens meeting in the WH.
The President probably told Romney a bunch of devastatingly embarassing stuff that Myth doesn't ever want to go public. So....it was "delightful".
(and he is a pompous ass)
