Navy Secretary Richard Spencer booted: Swamp revolt nipped in the bud
American Thinker ^ | 11/25/2019 | Monica Showalter

Appropriately, President and Commander in Chief Trump, through his Defense Secretary, told the slow on the uptake Navy secretary, Richard V. Spencer: "You're Fired!"

It was a swift and fitting response, given that it now emerges that Spencer was sneaking around behind his boss's back and arguably "blackmailing" the president over the case of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher.

Spencer was a real problem all around in this incident. First, he slow-walked Trump's order to leave Gallagher alone first by insisting that Trump would need to issue a formal order to get him to do anything (fill out a form in triplicate?) instead of tweet his very clear sentiment, and second that he'd fix things to make both the swamp and supposedly Trump happy by forcing Gallagher to retire, but allowing him to keep his prized Trident pin. Win-win, hey? He somehow didn't bother to tell Defense Secretary Mark Esper of his offer to the White House. And all that Commander in Chief Trump could see was that this boob didn't get the tweet hint about leaving Gallagher alone.

The New York Times, newspaper of choice of the Washington Swamp, initially reported that Spencer threatened to resign if he didn't get his way on how Gallagher was to be treated since his nearly total acquittal and his pardon and restoration of rank on the minor issue he was convicted of.

Spencer then denied it, but got weird in insisting that he'd only do what Trump wanted if he issued a formal order, and he made that public, he didn't go quietly through channels, as if to humiliate Trump. If he had any brain at all, he would have paid attention to the broad sentiment being conveyed by the commander in chief instead of kvetch like a NeverTrump about tweets.

Such things should have been done 1000-fold back in 2017. Every Obama hire should have been canned, and every Obama fire should have been reinstated. Then maybe a reassessment.

Spencer thought he was the big shark in the pond, but found out he’s just more bait.

Military serves at the pleasure of the President.

Collin "Granny" Green is going to find this out, to his chagrin.

I heartily encourage everyone to watch “The Crown”, season 3, episode 5, “Coup”. It is a great picture of the machinations against Harold Wilson, socialist PM in the mid-sixties. The character Lord Mountbatten is incredibly well-done, IMO. Someone did their homework for this script, even if it might be a tad fanciful. Lots of parallels with President Trump.

Does Spencer get to keep any part of his retirement package, seeing as he was fired? Does the military offer golden parachutes to the brass?

Yes, but Spencer was a Trump appointee back in August, 2017 ... showing once again that , imo, Trump has not been served well by advisors, especially early in this presidency.

Stupid bastard! “A tweet is not an official order”? If your commander conveys an order - by any means, even if it’s written on a f****** napkin - it’s still an order. Another bureaucrat with a terminal case of recto-cranial inversion.

Both Washington and Lincoln had problems in the people around them. It takes time to weed them out.

Trump has not been served well by advisors

My theory is that before becoming President, The President was accustomed to hiring people on a whim, knowing that if they didn't deliver, he could give the famous 'You're Fired' line. Now with politics involved, it is not that simple, even if he has the authority and the the right. Jeffie "Do Nothing" Sessions is a perfect example. Count on the dems to try to make hay from this.

What in the world goes on in Washington that makes people who seem smart suddenly act so stupid?

Did Spencer think he could challenge Trump and win? Moreover, why did he even take on Trump to being with?
