Kimberley Strassel: Obtaining phone logs of political rivals is a stunning abuse of congressional power
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 12/7/2019 | Kimberley A. Strassel

Fanatics can justify any action, and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff this week demonstrated where that mindset leads. In his rush to paint Donald Trump as a lawbreaker, Mr. Schiff has himself trampled law and responsibility.

That’s the bottom line in Mr. Schiff’s stunning decision to subpoena the phone records of Rudy Giuliani and others. Mr. Schiff divulged the phone logs this week in his Ukraine report, thereby revealing details about the communications of Trump attorneys Jay Sekulow and Mr. Giuliani, ranking Intelligence Committee member Devin Nunes, reporter John Solomon and others. The media is treating this as a victory, when it is a disgraceful breach of ethical and legal propriety.

If nothing else, Mr. Schiff claims the ignominious distinction of being the first congressman to use his official powers to spy on a fellow member and publish the details. His report also means open season on members of the press. Mr. Giuliani over months has likely spoken to dozens of political figures and reporters—and the numbers, dates and length of those calls are now in Democrats’ hot little hands. Who gets the Schiff treatment next? If you think politics is ugly now, imagine a world in which congressional partisans routinely track and expose the call lists of their political rivals and disfavored media.

"Not too long ago, this would have been a “bombshell.” Now, after the outrageous abuse of power it really is, this action doesn’t even cause a ripple."

____________

So true.

It does SEEM that the lefty media has won too many vacant minds in this nation.

If the American people don't get "hip to the facts" before too long, they won't have ANYTHING like a decent country in which to live or make "a ripple".

The Headline is missing one sentence, “if Republicans do it”.

Pissed off yes! "Stunned" No.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for a whole group that are "above the law". This, and worse abuses, will continue until the FBI and DOJ are cleaned up and these punks are perp walked and doing time!

The hypocrisy is off-the-scale, even for DC. The House is trying to put together articles of impeachment against the President for what it is alleging are various abuses of power while the impeachment leader is abusing power in a more blatant manner without any controversy.

Adam remember that Senator McCarthy was censured after he charged "three members of the [Watkins] Select Committee with 'deliberate deception' and 'fraud' ... that the special Senate session ... was a 'lynch party'", and had characterized the committee "as the 'unwitting handmaiden', 'involuntary agent' and 'attorneys in fact' of the Communist Party", and Senator McCarthy had "acted contrary to senatorial ethics and tended to bring the Senate into dishonor and disrepute, to obstruct the constitutional processes of the Senate, and to impair its dignity"

Adam your name will become a pejorative word in history!

“Not too long ago, this would have been a “bombshell.” Now, after the outrageous abuse of power it really is, this action doesn’t even cause a ripple.”

A significant part of the answer is that major media are demokraps disguised as “journalists”. This is not new throughout our history. The technology for disseminating is much more powerful though. Which is the other reason for no ripples - information overload by people - similar to “battle fatigue” with moral relativism and political correctness added in.

It’s not a bombshell because Nunes was supporting Trump. In the eyes of the Uniparty there is no crime if Trump or his supporters are the victim. It’s that simple.

Shouldn’t some staffer request the phone logs of Hunter Biden and Joe Biden and their lawyers??????????<

If THIS is the new standard?

Who was Hunter having “expedited” meetings with at Dept of State????

Did Joe Biden call State about this?

Did he call JOHN KERRY? is Anybody else scratching their chin thinking that as Biden is falling, John Kerry, who was SecState, whose kid was a business associate of Hunter, might be taking some defensive measures in endorsing Joe Biden now??

AT&T owns CNN. We all know how biased and one-sided CNN is. Did Adam Schitt call CNN and ask them to pressure AT&T?

Can we check HIS phone records?

Would AT&T give them up? LOL...

A new verb to enter the dictionary soon:

“schiff,” as in to “schiff” a political figure by various unethical and illegal means.

Example: “is it time to schiff Joe Biden by seizing his call records with his son Hunter, his contacts with Ukrainians, his contact with Hunter, his contacts with SecState Kerry, his staff, Kerry’s stepson who strangely just happens to have been a business partner with Hunter........etc., etc., etc., etc., ..............?

“If President Trump is impeached, the SDNY has an indictment poised and ready to file because Mr. Trump will NOT be president for that instant of time.”

The House can impeach all they want and Trump remains President unless the Senate removes him from office and that is not going to happen.
