TOM BROKAW SAYS RICHARD NIXON WAS MORE 'PRESIDENTIAL' THAN TRUMP, WHO 'PLAYS FROM THE GUTTER'

There are "significant differences" between former President Richard Nixon's impeachment process and President Donald Trump's, according to journalist Tom Brokaw, including how the two leaders handled difficult times in office.

"Nixon was always aware of being presidential," Brokaw told MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Monday night. "Trump plays from the gutter frankly."

Last week, the House of Representatives voted along party lines to impeach Trump for abuse of power and obstructing Congress. Trump has maintained his innocence since the inquiry into his dealings with Ukraine was launched in September, calling the process a "witch hunt," and his supporters, including Republican legislators, have continued to support the president.

Brokaw told Matthews that this public display of support for Trump is a different situation from when Representatives pursued impeaching Nixon. At the time, Brokaw said, the Republican Party didn't speak out against impeaching the president the way they are today.

A scumbag like Broke Jaw think Nixon was “more presidential” than President Trump because Trump refused to let the left win. Hey Tommie GFY.

And here I was always taught to think that ANYONE (American) could grow up to be President. Brokaw’s attitude seems a bit discriminatory.

They sure didn’t think like that while Nixon was alive. He was despised by the media, long before Watergate.

“TRUMP, WHO ‘PLAYS FROM THE GUTTER’

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Being in the gutter is much preferable to being in the swamp.

‘Learned a lesson’: Tom Brokaw apologizes for inaccurate reporting on Richard Jewell and 1996 Atlanta bombing
Washington Examiner ^ | December 26, 2019 | Mike Brest |
Posted on 12/27/2019, 10:35:07 AM by Eddie01

Longtime NBC anchor Tom Brokaw issued an apology to Richard Jewell, the security guard who saved lives in the aftermath of the 1996 Atlanta, Georgia, bombing and later became a prime suspect.

Jewell, whose story was recently turned into a movie by Clint Eastwood, started evacuating people from Centennial Olympic Park during the Atlanta Olympics after he spotted the bomb. Days later, media outlets began reporting that Jewell was the primary suspect in the attack. His innocence, however, was announced after months of speculation.

Brokaw, one of the journalists who reported that Jewell was a suspect, apologized on social media on Christmas.

He tweeted, “re richard jewell. 24 hours after the bombing i talked at length with a [senior FBI] official - who did not wave me off jewel as a suspect. i reported that and speculated why. but my last line was for now he’s just a person of interest. when the truth emerged i apologized.”

He added in a subsequent tweet, writing, “nbc made a substantial $ payment to the family without going through contentious [negotiation]. richard and his mother went through a painful time which i deeply regret. i hope we all learned a lesson, [including] “

At the time, Brokaw reported, “The speculation is that the FBI is close to ‘making the case,’ in their language. They probably have enough to arrest him right now, probably enough to prosecute him, but you always want to have enough to convict him as well. There are still some holes in this case,” according to a 2016 article in the Guardian.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first published the claim that Jewell was a suspect, and CNN followed minutes later, while Brokaw was not far behind.

NBC News was one of a couple of media outlets that settled lawsuits with Jewell in the aftermath of their erroneous reporting. It paid the security guard $500,000, Bob Costas, who defended Jewell’s right to due process, told the Associated Press in 1997. As part of the settlement, however, the outlet did not issue a retraction or apology for the news report.

Jewell died in 2007 from a struggle with diabetes.

Donald Trump is more Presidential than Bill or Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, JEB, Mitt, or McCain.

Barack Obama can go back to trash talking about Republicans “Suckin’ on a slurpee”.

McCain died knowing that the Hobbits had won.

I had a friend in the media business that said that these guys were arrogant, ego maniacal and basically bad news to hang around. He particularly lambasted Tom Brokaw. He said the real Tom Brokaw is just a complete a__hole. He is completely different than his persona.

Yep, but I don't think he has the mental capacity to do much other than breathe his own exhaust. Perhaps he and GWB can hold hands while doing their tra-la-la dance around the swamp and blowing kisses at its denizens. Maybe even joint up with George Will for a menage a trois of blatant stupidity.
