As if anyone has any idea who launched them. Could be one of 100 different factions for any number of reasons.

My son was stationed on Balaad AFB 10 years ago, he said that at that time there were about 30 rocket and/or mortar attacks per day. But, since Balaad is the biggest base over there with a very wide “dead zone” around it, most of the rockets and mortars landed in the “dead zone” and caused almost no damage or casualties.
This attack might have came from freelancers. The more organized stuff might come later.
The deadlier attacks will come against convoys from the embassy to the airport by IEDs. Maybe a SA-7 or similar platform fired at a US helicopter.
Don't forget bottom influence mines passively set to the acoustic signature of a US big deck carrier that will "find" their way at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. That will be the haymaker.

Good point. Heck, it could have even been agents of Saudi Arabia. Because if I were a Saudi, I would love to see the US pummel Iran. So I might be tempted to push the US a little in that direction.
Our next target should be the mullahs in Iran so the the people can rise up.
In fact our repeated message should be that if they rise up we would help them.
If Iran responds it will probably not be in Iraq.
