Key word is “large”.

But I think the rot has spread, even to small private Universities.
Because trendy. And lib.

Illegal aliens kill 25 people per day in the US. That statistics is probably higher these days and should be updated.

“Biolabs in Wuhan. Something has escaped the labs, and is basically a weaponized virus.”

The chicoms know how bad this will get, hence the mass quarantine.

Yes, and their population is around 1.4 billion so the number is between 3 and 4%.

No but I suspect they will be hit much, much harder. Cities have always been brewing grounds for epidemics.

Numbers wise Pennsylvania is a bit bigger.

City sizes and rankings are funny things. Someone else had a good post on the geographic size of various cities.

The U.S. has New York, and then LA. which are a distinct first and second; Chicago and Houston are no where near as big as LA, but a good deal bigger than the next five, who are grouped within about a quarter million of each other, and then there is a fall off of another quarter million before you get to a whole back of cities that are around a million.

Toronto is bigger than Chicago, and Montreal falls between Houston and the pack the occupies fifth through ninth place.

China has a big fall off between the first two and a pack of five or six that is statistically roughly the same.

Has anyone found a way to blame the outbreak on climate change yet?

"China has expanded its lockdown on more cities, restricting movement to an unprecedented 56 million people as it rushes to build a prefabricated, 1,000-bed hospital for victims, while the death toll from the outbreak continues to rise, casting a pall over Lunar New Year, the country's biggest and most festive holiday."

Fortunately for China and the rest of the world. This outbreak happened before their New Years.

If it happened after their New Years, it might engulfed the rest of the world.

Tourists from Hubei, especially from Wuhan city, are not allowed to leave the hotel where the medical observation will be held during the 14-day period, the announcement said. At least 450 military additional medical staff were deployed to Hubei to help with the treatment.

To help with 'treatment' or to stop people from escaping?

Here is a link to a daily report being done on the worlwide spread of the disease:
................
https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/01/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/
.................
There are the beginning rumors that this was a lab created disease. Not likely, as 6 of the first 7 patients were vendors at the Wuhan seafood market . They sell bats there for food.
................
This virus shares 80% of the SARS virus, its closest relative. It has a 96% match with a known virus in fruit bats. Snakes are not the origin.
................
This virus is much weaker than SARS but has some unusual traits. It is an RNA rather than a DNA virus like smallpox. That means that it mutates very quickly. Current patients are showing a 4th generation mutation from the original patients amonth ago.
..............
That makes vaccines very difficult to be effective.
..............
The new virus also has a very high binding energy to human tissue, about 4 times higher than SARS. That means that infection is far more likely when exposed. In fact, there are about 40% new patients every day, that is extraordinary.
...............
As usual, vulnerable people are more likely to die. Most people will be able to quickly fight off the virus.

Ironically, reading about the 1918 flu.

When it started or arrived in China, the Emperor tried to stop it. The failure was sited as one reason the revolutions started.

China is not a democracy. It’s basically a modern dictatorship.

[To help with ‘treatment’ or to stop people from escaping? ]

If for preventing escapes, 450 is a drop in the bucket for the region under quarantine. The area bracketed is at least 20,000 sq miles. The Yom Kippur War involved 3 armies facing off against each other in a smaller land area. The combined troop count exceeded 1m soldiers. And they were firing at each other from significant distances at a minimum of hundreds of yards.

I really hope the hype is exaggerated for the virus. I think it is. The Chinese people have been suffered too long under the incompetence of the chicoms.
