"BNO News @BNONews BREAKING: Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issues tsunami alert for Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Cuba"

Tsunami's move pretty fast, being 125k away from land, I can't imagine this alert has a long shelf life.

Yes, I know. That sucker gets wild too.

All the buildup of civilization in that area is disconcerting too.

Some people may not realize that fault goes from North Eastern Arkansas up towards Boston. Church bells in Boston rang the last time it went off.

I believe liquefaction can be an issue is some ares of that region.

Besides the fact that the New Madrid quakes can be quite large and can be felt very far away, consider, older St. Louis is built out of brick. If a big one hits here, there will be a lot of damage.

These people vacationing in Jamaica don’t seem to be to concerned about any EQ or tidal wave.

I expect they are putting up signs already saying “no Clinton help needed”.

That is Rick’s Cafe, which is about two hours from Montego Bay, it’s quite a ways. Been there at least 4-5 times.

I live on the world’s largest volcano. She could move and produce a quake like that at any time. It’s the reality we live with.

I checked the damage map from the last serious Madrid quake. The edge of the area on a map indicated it stopped about 15 miles from where I live. :)

It’s north side, right? Should be in path of any big wave. With an alert declared you’d think they’d move.

Found my own answer:

The quake was very shallow, at only 6.2 miles (10 km), which would have amplified its effect.

Earthquakes never really bothered me, lived through a lot of them when I was living down there.

Whittier quake was right next door (lived in Downey), Northridge quake was just a few miles away, San Fernando quake happened when I was overseas in RVN.

When I retired to Northern California it was because there are just to many damn people down there.
Much worse than earthquakes.

The 6.6 Sylmar Earthquake was about the same size as Northridge and in the same general area.

There was a family in Fullerton’s hills 50 miles from the epicenter who had their swimming pool emptied by the quake. The water sloshed out in one big wave, taking a sliding glass door with it through the house. Barely missed hitting one of their kids. Inspired them to have the pool taken out.
