United States' Warning to the Taliban If They Break Peace Agreement: 'We'll Just Start Killing Them Again'

The United States and Afghan governments took their first step in ending the almost two decade war with the Taliban on Saturday by signing a peace agreement and a joint declaration to take U.S. troops out of Afghanistan.

The withdrawal agreement was signed after a "reduction in violence" agreement was in effect between the two sides. The plan is to now have both sides come to the table to enact a permanent ceasefire and enable conditions to allow U.S. troops to completely leave Afghanistan in 14 months.

The "reduction in violence" agreement only applies to the Taliban and not Al-Qaeda or the ISIS militants operating in Afghanistan.

Whether we stay another 14 months or 14 years will make no difference.

Islam is the problem.

I hope they were paying attention because what I’m pretty sure what I heard Trump say was winning would require killing millions of people and he would rather not. I think the implication was don’t assume he won’t.

My sympathy goes to those few Afghans who want to step out of that 7th Century warzone lifestyle.
I have worked with some Afghan people. Some make good workers, just as with any group. Almost all Afghans I’ve met don’t expect to visit home again anytime soon. Most say they don’t want to anyway.

He’s had three years, and instead of killing them he signed a peace treaty with them.

Conventional bombing did not break the spirit of the Japanese fanatics in WW II. So I doubt if it will break the spirit of the Islamic fanatics in Afghanistan now.

No, I’m not advocating for a nuclear option in Afghanistan. Neither am I advocating for leaving them alone when they start plotting against us again. So I suppose the only option is to add Afghanistan to the list of endless drone wars.

And the Taliban would be well advised to not make the mistake of jumping on the backs of the last few US servicemen leaving Afghanistan, stabbing them from behind as they leave. Nothing else is as sure to bring the Americans surging back into their country than such a Parthian shot.

If they break promises, I suggest we take on the policy we started to have with the Iranian QUDS - eliminate Solemanie, then eliminate his successor, then his successor and pretty soon no one wants to lead the QUDS. It’s a death sentence. Without a leader they will crumble and be ineffective. Ditto ISIS, AQ and every terrorist group. That’s the preferred target for any sniper in combat - go for any leader can see in the scope.

Afghanistan has been at war for 40 years. They’re not afraid of getting killed, unless the US military wants to start resorting to genocide.

Leave them be to live in the 7th century since they desperately want to.

The “peace” agreement releases 5,000 hardened Taliban fighters that are POWs.
............
Tell me about all that peacefulness to come.
............
The current Afghan government is not a party......at all........to this “peace” agreement.
..............
Tell me about all that peacefulness to come.
.............
Everyone, get this straight, this is not a peace agreement. It is just a truce to keep the Taliban from shooting at us while we pack our bags.
..............
It will be strictly an open killing season, after we’re gone.

Can you say MOAB? A dozen of those tossed around would get their attention.

[Conventional bombing did not break the spirit of the Japanese fanatics in WW II. So I doubt if it will break the spirit of the Islamic fanatics in Afghanistan now.]

Actually, they were near the breaking point. There was widespread hunger and famine in parts of the country. The amount of devastation inflicted on Japan was severe. Roughly 4% of the country lay dead at war’s end. Whereas we haven’t even scratched the surface in Afghanistan. Out of a population of 35m, we have killed perhaps 85,000, or .25% (including hostile civilians - the Taliban have taken care to kill civilians friendly to the US). To match the Japanese casualty %’s, we’d have to kill 15x the number of Taliban and hostile civilian dead we’ve inflicted to date.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%93present)

The principal reason this war is dragging on is because we haven’t taken the gloves off. Genghis Khan is said to have wipe out entire cities. I’m a little skeptical, because they lived off the land (i.e. local civilians). No local civilians, no food. If you kill them all, what do you do for food on the way back from an expedition? You can’t carry it all with you. Draft animals need to be fed and watered, etc etc. But even Alexander, over a thousand years prior to the Mongols, killed vast numbers of people in cities that resisted him:
