Governments love crises because when the people are fearful they are more willing to give up freedoms for promises that the government will take care of them. After 9/11, for example, Americans accepted the near-total destruction of their civil liberties in the PATRIOT Acts hollow promises of security.
It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.
Declaring a pandemic emergency on Friday, President Trump now claims the power to quarantine individuals suspected of being infected by the virus and, as Politico writes, stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease. He can even call out the military to cordon off a US city or state.
State and local authoritarians love panic as well. The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state.
The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.

There are lots of unknowns, but the numbers are high enough now that scientists can narrow it down to a range (seeing 0.8%-3%). My simple fatality rate is fatalities/known cases...as you said that cases # is a big variable (denominator), but let’s use South Korea since it is one of the most tested countries. (USA one of the least). 75 fatalities/8320 cases = 0.9% fatality rate, about 8x regular flu...in line with everything I read & hear on TV from the experts.

Where do you think MDs get their information? It is from people like me, who understand the basic science. It is painfully obvious that Ron Paul may be a physician, but he has no expertise in anything related to epidemiology.
And, are you incapable of doing math? I linked to the tracking website where case data is compiled, you can access and calculate the numbers for yourself and you dont believe me that the death rate is approaching 4%? Seriously? Pop out a calculator and do your own calculations! You do know how to calculate percentages, dont you?

I hope through this whole thing you are proven wrong and your 4% number is not based on reality because your premise is simply incorrect. Without having correct testing which is not President Trump’s Fault by the way it was eight years of the previous regime and President Bush before him to blame. Things are not happening the way that the Democrats and the ever so esteemed Dr Fauci, who by the way was awarded a medal by Obama and President Bush, have proclaimed. I only hope the President Trump uses this whole thing to expose the frauds at these people are. And by the way you have not brought up that the virus was purposely released and anybody who does not believe that at this point is quite frankly an idiot. I completely agree with you! Having followed the Coronavirus threads here for several weeks, I have sadly reached a few conclusions:
1 The love of liberty seems to be comatose and on life support in our formerly great country. I am saddened that in a community named Free Republic, that those who dare advocate for freedom during times of crisis are routinely flamed and ridiculed here.
2. The slave like blind trust in “expert opinions” and projections based on worst case scenarios, in the face of data analysis which would not pass muster in an undergraduate statistics course is distressing.
3.Our formerly great nation seems to no longer be the home of the brave, but rather the wellspring of cowardice. Are there no Patrick Henrys who can say
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
4. Have we reached a point where we prefer comfortable slavery to dangerous freedom? I fear that we have. Just remember that the liberties which are being stripped away at light speed will not be easily recovered.

If any one wants to convince me they have some kind of insight into future events, please provide me some predictions that I may evaluate and establish credence. Otherwise dont waste our time.
Modern day progressives promote these notions of people being able to “feel the future.” So do many cults. Others just talk to God and Jesus. Maybe they do, but I need evidence they are a true prophet, or have special abilities to foresee the future. The reason that nonanalytical thinking is is promoted is that it provides a useful tool for controlling the masses.
Note, factual predictions for Global Warming (GW) are never true. But the progressives get around this by claiming unusual events must have been caused by GW. By their continuous propaganda, they want you to “feel” the weather or climate is getting more unusual, therefore, it must be due to man made GW.
