Prudential Financial, the Newark-based insurance giant, donated a stockpile of 153,000 protective face masks and respirators to the state over the weekend to aid in the rapidly escalating coronavirus outbreak.
The masks and respirators, expected to provide a two-week respite for hospitals until additional masks and other supplies can be delivered, had been in storage at the company's Newark headquarters. They had been stockpiled after the 9/11 terror attacks as part of the company's emergency preparedness efforts for possible use by employees in the event of a future crisis, according to officials.
Bill Barrett, Prudential's vice president of corporate real estate, was tasked to essentially see what was in the basement. What he found were 153,000 face masks, including 73,000 with N95 respirators.
A company spokeswoman said the cache stemmed from the need for emergency preparations that became all too clear after 9/11.
They also found 300 bottles of hand sanitizer that had been stockpiled by the company as well.

What is the expiration date on those masks?
The rubber bands may need replacement.
what we really need is 153 K deportations a day, 153K tons of anti-malaria pills dropped from military choppers
153K days in prison for all OPEN BORDERS COUNTY JUDGES,MAYORS & GOVERNORS pointing their fingers at American Citizens telling them to “Stay Home” when they ignored the illegals enveloping their cities towns & nation
Tell ILLEGALS to ‘STAY HOME” FIRST!
On another note, bravo to Prudential and their basement. Who knew they were preppers? lol

They were preppers...
For all the complaints people may have about them, Ive learned that large insurance companies are generally the most stable, cautious organizations in the business world. Its ingrained in their corporate culture.
I used to work for Pru for 15 years in Newark, nice move by them, however, it took them 2 weeks to figure out they had masks and respirators??
I’ve worked in the insurance industry 23 years as an Underwriter, and I would agree. Company to company it’s generally a pretty conservative culture. Especially financially and in business operations and models.
Once we get through this crisis a lot of organizations should be ready to explain their apparent total lack of preparation for an event they are supposed to have been prepared for.
What excuse does New York state and all its public health people and hospitals have for not having a supply of masks, gowns, gloves, and other PPE?
Hospitals are so pressed by illegal aliens, mandated free treatment and Obama care they simply don't have the resources.
Same in Europe
In Socialized medicine there is infinite demand free stuff but finite limits on what can be provided
The finite assets can never keep up with the infinite demand
not Prudential- i’ve worked for Prudential for 33+ years out in the field and can tell you they are disgustingly far left wing in the corporate office. Our local office is primarily conservative but the powers that be at Pru are hypocritically left wing...
Nice how companies are stepping in to help.
2010 (H1N1 novel virus):
The healthcare industry did a poor job of maintaining adequate supplies of N95 respirators. It wasnt until the pandemic began in earnest that the industry took a hard look at its existing supply of N95s, and only then did many companies realize that they would be facing a significant shortage.

Apparently, our healthcare industry did not learn. And the CDC did not direct them. They all need to be held accountable post-pandemic.
