Its often said that most of what the academic elites call philosophy is nothing but some underutilized minds worrying themselves about questions that common-sense folk find obvious. The saying came to mind as I listened recently to some of these folks straining to fit their various theories to the Age of Trump. More precisely, they were double-helixing themselves trying to explain why the amoral, relativist, truth-denying theories theyve championed for so long are actually good reasons for hating the supposedly amoral, relativist, truth-defying current President.
Listening to this theorizing crystallized (at least for this initially reluctant Trump supporter) why President Trump is indispensable.
One of the philosophical exchanges concerned the allegedly inscrutable problem of the self, of explaining how we can say a human being remains the same person over time even though ones physical cells are all lost and replaced many times throughout life. Yes, this actually can pose a conundrum, if you reject out of hand the existence of all supernatural entities including the soul and God, as the elites generally do.
This problem of the self raises moral issues. If you dont know when a persons selfhood begins or ends, how can you judge whether that person is moral or immoral? Sure, they say, Hitler slaughtered six million or so human beings, but wasnt he also an animal lover who practiced vegetarianism and was kind to his pets?

I have been all all over the world, both in and out of the military.
I ask these young folks, with brains of mush, does evil exist? I have seen it firsthand.
If they answer no, then then have them explain Stalin, Hitler. Pol Pot, Mao, etc.
If yes, then good must exist too. And, therefore, a moral code. Where does that come from.
Usually you will hear the answer “The golden rule” or treat others as you want to be treated.
The don’t even know that is a quote from Jesus from the Bible.
Not only are facts irrelevant now, but contradictory lies can be embraced at the same time. The left has fine tuned the art of exploiting human ignorance.
The Left is just fundamentally dishonest. They will say anything at all as long as they think it leads to more power for them.
They will ridicule you for your belief in objective truth.
They will also ridicule you for your “crazy ideas” which fly in the face of the objective truth that they hold so dear.
It doesn’t matter. They just want to win. It’s Calvin Ball.
Yes!
The example that always comes to mind is when they argue for abortion, and against the death penalty.
Rational thinking is means nothing to them, in their drive to tyranny.
Not only is this President indispensable, those treetards made him possible.
A reaction is setting in on agenda “science” and the shredding of values of long-standing significance and usefulness.
Oops too much editing - no final read through.
Sigh.
Rational thinking means nothing to them, as they drive for tyranny.
Just because an observation is in the Bible doesnt mean it originated there. The do unto others policy is the building block of any social contract that allows humans to cooperate for their survival. It doesnt require a Supreme Being in order to be discovered or implemented.
Let me ask this then
Are valuations of things, like, say, chopping off little children’s arms, basically neutral? There’s no underlying sense of what is good and what is evil, that is shared across all humanity? Or if there is, where the heck did that come from?
What survival advantage led selflessness, or abhorrence of the torture of innocents, to an evolutionary advantage?
Apologies to C.S. Lewis, ‘Mere Chistianity”
Historical, the “golden rule” is no where else documented.
Most of the world then, and today, is screw the other guy before he screws you.
And, as documented in the Torah and Koran.
“Do unto others- and then run’’.- Benny Hill.
Well, it's not said often enough for yours truly.
Ah, the good old days when nuns where more interested in spiritual, rather than secular teachings.
BTW, I got my share of “spiritually transferring experience of pain”.
A simple search of golden rule in other cultures proves that wrong. It shows up in most cultures in one form or another. Sometimes its phrased in the negative form, such as if you dont want it done to you, dont do it to others, but its a common observation.
Given that the Bible authorized the Jews periodically to wipe out other ethnicities, I would say that if you want to make the case for evil being relative, the Bible is more useful than not.
Postmodernist leftards replace the soul with a multiplicity of selves that are socially, culturally, and situationally constructed. Each self is a flux of its own whims, interests, needs, and desires.
This idea negates the idea of human nature as a stable entity consisting of a unification of body and soul. And this means there is no boundary between normal and abnormal, right and wrong.
Oh cool. You did a simple search.
Now go to their FOUNDING documents.
The Torah. The Koran. Tribal areas in Africa. Etc.
Basically, those not like you deserve what they get.
LOL! Man, those old dames were a terror. I went to a Catholic elementary school in The Golden Age of Catholic education, early to mid-sixties. One heck of a lesson though, isn’t it?
