Gasoline prices are ridiculously low, so of course .gov would want fuel economy.
lol
I don’t want anything newer than about 2009 because of all the ridiculous government mandated crap on the cars after that.
At this rate just buy every American family a car and call it a day... eyeroll...
The last time they did “Cash For Clunkers”, the used car market almost went under.
I have a car that would be a perfect candidate. Unfortunately it belongs to my neighbor, and I’d get caught.
So those Americans that maintain a fairly newer, reliable, more fuel efficient vehicle will get screwed again. Imagine that.
I now “Build” my own cars from parts of older production cars.
No OBD, no F.I., no anti-lock brakes, no satellite location, no cup holders!
The new cars are detestable appliances on wheels, I will not have any newer than about 1980.
Ruin the affordable used car market for high schooler parents, high school grads, college students, low income workers and retirees.
Again.
Karma, please visit Democrat politicians real soon.
I’m absolutely keeping my 30 year old car (Corvette)!
After the last CASH FOR CLUNKERS deal, my now ex-wife traded off my 2003 Nissan Sentra, that I had given her in the divorce and had been my commuter car and that I paid $7,800 brand new, and got $9,200 trade in value.
the definition of insanity is trying the same failed thing over and over and expecting a new result
Socialism doesn’;t work, cash for clunkers doesn’t work- the cash for clunkers fiasco was a colossal failure-
The last time, the poor could not afford a decent vehicle because of that program. Most of the good, secondary market cars were ruined.
Don’t do this really stupid thing. Last time around there were no affordable starter cars & the younger generation really took it on the chin.
There is always someone figuring out a way to rip of the tax payer with every government program. The next door neighbor started up a part time car repair business & couldn’t find the engine # for the obama era car someone brought in. It had to be a re-engined clunker.
On a semi related note I was headed to a grocery store Saturday morning, all business are closed or take out and passed a strip center that the parking lot was PACKED.
I was looking to see what was open, it was a TitleMax and there must have been close to 600-700 cars parked around it.
It completely filled the parking lot.
.
Bad idea. Very bad idea.
And the first program back in 2009 worked so well ... /s

Had I known, I probably could have gotten a better deal than the $10k+ I got off on the truck I bought back in September. And my 2016 truck probably won’t qualify. Besides, at 50k miles, it still runs great.
Horrible.
Raises the cost of a car for the working poor, who can least afford it.
And no great ecological saving in constructing a whole new car in place of one that used a little too much gas.
Original Cash for Clunkers cost me $9000 because I was trying to buy a 2yo F150 at auction just as the program was kicking in. We started bidding when prices for ‘07s coming off lease averaged $12.5. Each week the price jumped $2-3K, and before my buyer caught on to what was going on we couldn’t find a car for under $20K. Ended up buying one off a lot for $21,000.
Thank you Obama.
