There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada,” said the prime minister. “Effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade assault weapons in this country.”

Trudeau had also previously promised to ban the Ruger Mini-14 rifle, the weapon used in the 1989 École Polytechnique shooting in Montreal, in which 14 women were murdered. The move to heavily restrict access to certain firearms will probably prompt anger from the opposition Conservative party and Canada’s gun lobby – but a ban of certain weapons can be carried out through cabinet, bypassing the need for legislation.
“Justin Trudeau is using the current pandemic and the immediate emotion of the horrific attack in Nova Scotia to push the Liberals’ ideological agenda to make major firearms policy changes,” said the Conservative leader, Andrew Scheer, following Trudeau’s comments. “Taking firearms away from law-abiding citizens does nothing to stop dangerous criminals who obtain their guns illegally.” ...

The 1500 gun list is an astounding confiscation of the guns of law abiding citizens.
Must be a lot of mass-shootings in Canada by people using assault weapons. That would be the only reason that justifies Trudeau banning those weapons.
Or, is Trudeau using the single mass-shooting to justify him doing what he wanted to do in the first place? Take a single-event crisis and use it to justify the action. Just like democrats in the U.S. want to use ANY use of a gun in a murder to ban them.
Because who cares about being able to defend yourself.

It doesnt happen. Canadians are too polite. They are sheep like us. We have badass AR-15 owners with a crap load of guns in VA. Yet Sic Semper Tyrannis has zero meaning when it does come to a tyrant. We will all orderly go to the gas chamber like the jews! The freedom so many died for has no meaning.
AND...the very small number of gun owners that registered their guns with Canada during the recent “Long Gun Registry” debacle...can kiss their weapons goodbye.
22 deaths is not the REASON Trudeau wants to ban “assault guns,”. It is his EXCUSE to do it. He must have been torn upon hearing the news of the shooting - part weepy and part cheery.
