Five Quick Things: Let That Mask Slip
The American Spectator ^ | 25 May 20 | Scott McKay

Posted on 05/25/2020 5:58:19 AM PDT by SkyPilot

That mask isn't virtuous, nor is it going to keep you from catching the virus. Plus, various other things.

It’s time to say a few things which need to be said — and to irritate some people who need to be irritated (as they are surely irritating).

And on with the show…

1. Enough with the Mask-Nazi nonsense.

Those of us who refuse to live our lives in fear, or to bow to those who do, have a message for the rest of you — the time has come and gone for us to continue with this idiotic charade of wearing masks in public.

The mask is not an adequate defense against the COVID-19 virus, gang. The virus checks in at somewhere between 0.06 and 0.14 microns, meaning it’s too small for any commercially available mask to effectively filter it out. The pores on an N95 mask, which are the best masks you’re reasonably going to find, and the vast, vast majority of you are not going to have N95 masks but rather cloth masks which perform far less well, are 0.3 microns.

Meaning that while the N95 mask you wish you had but don’t, and that you shouldn’t have because doctors and nurses who have to treat coronavirus patients daily in hospitals need a steady supply of them, might trap the virus most of the time, that crappy cloth mask you’re wearing is more or less worthless. All it’s doing is signaling to people that you think you care more about the virus than they do.

But if you really want to wear that mask, OK. Go ahead and wear it. It’s time to stop giving the stink-eye, or worse, a piece of your Karen mind, to people who aren’t impressed with your Mask Virtue...

So let me get this straight. the material in the mask is so magical that even though viral particles come right through and can make you sick, they ca t to the other direction and make someone else sick. wow. I want some of that magic cloth

The simple truth is ya i t manners and covering you cough or sneeze will do as much if not better than that mask you are wearing

“How Trump got bamboozled into this whole charade is mystifying and disturbing.”

I think that it was due to the massive number of deaths in China that the CCP covered up.

Vitamin D and Vitamin C are your friends. If you like and are quite concerned, then take the drugs that Trump recommends as well as many doctors. You can do that as a precaution too. Overall, this disease has a very low morality rate yet we’ve killed our economies over this and driven in social wedges.

This is just another step toward an authoritarian state.

None of that is responsive to much less a rebuttal of anything I've posted ... but you have fun.

Go ahead and keep your opinions though. Just know it’s based on fear and not fact.

What opinion do you think I've expressed?

"The author is also wrong because he fails to account for "Brownian motion.""

True. All of physics still applies to the COVID particles. "They ain't magic". Inertia also enters the equation with multi-layer (even home made) masks, as the mask pores are offset, forcing the particles to make a series of right turns to traverse the pore, increasing the liklihood of impact with and trapping by the mask.

The COVID-19 is not airborne, it is spread by droplets. Masks are sufficient to slow the flinging of droplets.

even though viral particles come right through

Here's his original article and here's the literature review he cites.

He calls it "recent" but the last update was in 2011.

The researchers don't have tons of confidence in the SARS studies but for Blaylock to just omit them and focus on the flu is pretty blatent.

and. never reuse the masks. The exercise i like best is to take your mask. smear the outside (or inside of you think that is the side tha magically works) with chocolate syrup. You will get it all over yourself if you reach up to adjust the mask, answer your phone or take a drink of water. Now take it off hang it on your rear view mirror, put it in your purse or pocket or wherever you usually put it. The. take it out and put it back on again. Do this without getting any chocolate syrup on yourself or your belongings....

wear gloves? try the same with them

Imagine thinking that volunteering to be a disease vector is an act of bravery.

Congratulations, I have never seen a post from you on anything other than your beloved pot smoking. Maybe the statistic that states with legalized marijuana have had over ten times as many deaths from coronavirus as states where its still illegal has got you concerned? Or this and other articles?

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/can-smoking-marijuana-increase-your-chances-of-getting-the-coronavirus/

Ha Ha!!! Its kind of funny that you believe that wearing a dust mask that doesn't make a tight seal against your face and was designed to stop only a percentage of particles a thousand times larger than coronavirus particles makes you not a “disease vector” but I still consider it progress. Although it seems a little ironic given your moniker. A stone noble free eagle driving around town with a dust mask strapped over its beak virtue signaling compliance to those who dare go maskless.

Oh don't worry... I know you believe that marijuana is the latest and greatest cure for coronavirus despite the statistical evidence

not sure what your point is. The mask may stop some flinging if particles but not all. I said covering your cough or sneeze would be as effective. It does not filter viral particles. It is ineffective at stopping t the spread of disease.

Worse yet the masks are often worn inappropriately and do not fit. They are not discarded after a single use but worn again and again after spending time in your car pocket or purse. they may a lovely disease vector all on their own. Want to wear one? go ahead. Dont expect me to go along with your charade

I reuse mine all the time since I don’t believe the masks are effective

That masks help anything. Masks hinder the healthy.

I have never seen a post from you on anything other than your beloved pot smoking.

Then you haven't been looking.

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/can-smoking-marijuana-increase-your-chances-of-getting-the-coronavirus/

Everything said there applies to smoked/vaped tobacco as well. Should we ban it?

a dust mask that doesn't make a tight seal against your face and was designed to stop only a percentage of particles a thousand times larger than coronavirus particles

As another FReeper already observed, "The COVID-19 is not airborne, it is spread by droplets. Masks are sufficient to slow the flinging of droplets."

I know you believe that marijuana is the latest and greatest cure for coronavirus

It does not filter viral particles.

It doesn't have to. You still don't seem to have read the post you were replying to.

That masks help anything.

At least four studies show that masks reduce the transmission of the coronavirus disease SARS: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5779801/

Masks hinder the healthy.

I'm healthy, wear a mask whenever I go in public, and have not been hindered. How does a mask hinder you?

I could cite multiple sources, but I’ll let you go ahead and read up on it.

Those are the studies from the same sources who predicted the commie flu models? There are multiple health care professionals who will speak about the dangers of masks, especially on healthy people.

After wearing them in one place, we take the custom fitted masks off before getting in the car and put them in a bag before sanitizing hands.

Sort of reminds me of this (one of my favorite SNL skits).

You don't know jack, bigmouth.

Good morning to you too sunshine!

As usual you show off your stunning pot addled intellect.

Dust masks do two things for a person coughing or sneezing with coronavirus. 1st they help turn larger droplets with viral particulate which would harmlessly drop to the ground into smaller aerosolized droplets which form a cloud that floats around for an extended length of time others to breath. Second, they concentrate the viral particulate that your body's immune response is trying to get rid of in your nasal cavities and increases the chance that the virus will infect your brain by traveling up your olfactory nerve channel.

Quick hand me a mask, I want to virtue shame non-pot smokers.

Not as far as I know; modeling and empirical research are different specializations. Can you document that they're the same sources - or are you just flinging mud?
