Why Are Masks Triggering Conflict and Rage?

In a similar way, face masks are tied to the political conflict over our response to the coronavirus. Those who lean left politically tend to see the virus as a more dire threat; those on the right are more likely to downplay its seriousness or compare it to less deadly strains like the flu, often following the lead of conservative politicians.

Accordingly, masks may be seen as a marker of political loyalty, triggering feelings of us-versus-them. A politically liberal person may assume that someone wearing a mask is “on their team,” while those who don’t wear masks must be Fox News-watching Republicans. The anger they feel is not simply about the mask, but about believing the non-mask wearer is a certain type of person.

Several weeks old. But for me, if someone wants to wear one and feels better doing so, their call. IF they are sick then yeah, keep your germs firmly saturated in your mask. To me it appears the left leaning folks are more hard over on it. Out of fear? Others are less likely to have that much of a concern over it. We have them in the vehicles and if a location 'requires' wearing them we will if it's something that is a 'must'. Otherwise, over it. And, of course the psycho's will be weighing in on the issue. Certainly their client volume has gone up. Seems that the writer is most likely "one of them". Notice he refers to folks NOT wearing masks as "Fox News-watching Republicans."(idiots?) Or simply an 'observation'. Muchly educated, bigly clueless. Butt, perhaps an interesting read.

No, On the left is not concerned with Deaths or illness

They are only concerned with control and trying to steal elections

Some people no matter how highly educated just can’t see the forest for the trees

Lefturd loons are statists/socialists. If authority says you must obey authority and wear the masks, then you must do it whether you like or not, or whether it makes sense. If you don’t, then you are a baddie and will be condemned.

Years ago when testing LSD in the lab, the problem arose of identifying those who would have a bad trip to remove them from the research.

By inducing high concentrations of CO2, the anxiety level in patients who were prone to bad trips was triggered.

The masks restrict respiration and when the breathing exhaled air is considered, the masks are creating hypoxia with high concentrations of CO2.

I actually get a headache if I wear the mask for an hour.

I think the masks are creating the same reaction anxiety as was found in the LSD research.

Would be interesting to see if people who use CPAP machines have more difficulty with masks.

I think many liberals in America think they want to be socialists. If they actually were subject to a socialist regime, most would quickly change there minds. But, wearing a mask to them is like pretending to be under the thumb of an authoritarian government.
Those lucky Chinese, they think, were forced to wear grey clothes and caps with little red stars on them, and contribute to the communal pot that is allotted evenly among the people (as the fantasy goes).
Conservatives may see the masks as dog collars the government is trying to get around their necks for control.
Maybe both sides are, in their own ways, engaging in virtue signaling.

I wear a mask entering establishments that require them, not because the idiot NY governor says so. (The fact that they require them because the tyrants threaten to pull their business license unless they kowtow is another discussion). However, this has its limit. Where I am, generalissimo Cuomo has graciously “allowed” many businesses to reopen, the rest of them probably next week. But I won’t patronize a business that will continue to treat me as a leper. This entire thing has gone from reasonable precautions to overkill to outright idiocy. In NJ, you’re “allowed” to surf - but not swim....

“if someone wants to wear one and feels better doing so, their call. IF they are sick then yeah, keep your germs firmly saturated in your mask.”

Agree with half, i.e., if someone is sick or vulnerable then, yes, wear a mask. For someone to wear a mask simply to “feel better” is a sign of mental issues. (Truly amazing how the media has successfully messed with people’s minds to destroy the country.) Before this happened, it was taboo to wear masks, and only ANTIFA and thieves wore them.

In northern NJ, we’re all wearing masks. We had a lot of cases here. A story like this seems to me to be looking for trouble where it doesn’t exist. And it’s hardly the first I’ve seen on this topic.

I’m sure it’ll come off during the summer.

But first evidence of fall spike, back it goes.

Some psycho woman (I immediately knew she was a liberal by her appearance) in Publix yesterday got a little weird with me. Publix has marked one way aisles which I didn’t notice. So this SJW, as she passes me, says, “you are going the wrong way, they have done this to protect us.” I responded with a laugh, and said that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard” and moved on. The store was packed, I saw her a few aisles later and intentionally made sure I was going the wrong way.

The conscious selection of words is interesting.

Are masks really creating “rage?”

You guys have your own level of drama and hysteria.

“Wearing a mask for hours makes me sick.”

Unless you are performing hip surgery on the street, no one expects you to wear a mask that long. And if you need help breathing after wearing a mask, you have other issues that should confine yourself to a sterile box.

You guys use words that are intentionally insulting and present anyone wearing a mask is a weak coward.

If you understand the use of propaganda, you can see what is going on. Don’t wear a mask. I really don’t care. But in my area you are not getting into a grocery store. So, if you don’t wear a mask...eventually you don’t eat. Good for everyone.

To quote Greg Gutfeld: “I HATE THESE PEOPLE!”

I do notice “those people” in stores here in TN, but never see any encounters between them the others. People pretty much respect the freedom for others to do what they do. As far as the directional signs on the floor at Walmart, everyone laughs at that.

A divise tool for a country, state, neighborhood, family. A measure of compliance for the silence of the lambs and/or a virtue-signaling vehicle for the totalitarian in training. Easy visual metric. Medical tyranny...here take this vaccine. We require it. Chianti fava bean BUMP!

Hong Kongers have been wearing masks for over a year to defeat facial recognition cameras used by the PLA loving authorities there.

PLA loving authorities even passed an ‘anti-mask law’ to prevent the freedom fighting kids from hiding their identities. The freedom fighting kids ignored the anti-mask law.

Oddly enough, Hong Kong was never subsumed with a lot of cases in spite of a LOT of direct travel from the mainland.

Hmmmm

Would be interesting to see if people who use CPAP machines have more difficulty with masks.

I've been a CPAP user for six plus years now. The issue I have with these silly cloth masks is primarily during the heat and humidity.

I will NOT wear one while outside, period. I DGAF what our stupid Governor here in Hellinois says. The local stores however are heavily enforcing "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Mask = No Entry" so if I want to buy food or get something I need, I have to put one on.

It'll go on as I enter the store and comes off IMMEDIATELY after leaving it. Even in a store like Home Depot that doesn't have air conditioning, I'll pull the mask away from my face to breathe if no one's within a few feet of me. Trying to breathe through the stupid things in this first hot weekend of the year here (it was 90 yesterday in the far southwest suburbs outside Shitcago) is VERY problematic.
