There is an older gal that has worked at the small grocery store I go to forever. Yesterday morning I’m in there and talking to her and she says she’s been sick from wearing a mask all day every day. Headaches, dizziness, weakness, etc. I said.....pull it down under your nose....jeez.

A Muslim article proclaimed, “We’re all niqabis now!”

The article was intended to argue that we’re cruelly hypocritical for demanding face masks but rejecting niqabs. However, the reality is that the mask has become a similar symbol of obedience to strict social rules.

And the people screaming at and attacking the person not wearing the mask are in the same vein as those who scream, beat and eventually kill the woman for not covering up. In both cases, it is equated with public safety and public good.

A mask is a metaphor which a small percentage understand...including me.

In fact, this "mask offensive" is the evidence that the virus has become weaponized by the political left.

Some of you might find this interesting:

Please read the following summation regarding the Spanish Flu and New York City’s response via its Dept. of Health Commissioner, Royal S. Copeland, juxtaposed against the ignorant citation of the effectiveness of facial coverings in San Francisco and other hysterical attempts (i.e. citation of Anti-mask League ) to justify further restrictions upon the healthy, general population for whom the risk of death from SARS-CoV-2 infection barely rises above the risk of death by drowning:

The Flu Epidemic of 1918 , Pauline Toole, March 1, 2018
NYC DEPARTMENT OF RECORDS & INFORMATION SERVICES

Copeland reveled in his success, righteously rubbing it in the noses of his critics:

“In meeting the situation when it got here we did a number of unconventional things and we did not do several conventional things that were done elsewhere.... The first thing that was done almost everywhere but New York was to close the schools…and the theatres and all places of public assemblage.... They may have been just the right things to do in those places; I don’t know their conditions. But I do know the conditions of New York and I know that in our city one of the most important methods of disease-control is the public school system.”

By the way, here are the Spanish Flu death rates compared between the 2 cited cities:

This citation is the preeminent proof that lockdowns and quarantining of the healthy are measures potentially more costly in lives & societal/economic damage than the virus itself.

Had the leadership under New York Governor Cuomo protected its elderly nursing home population, the statistics for the city might have looked better than most other major urban centers rather than the metaphorical train-wreck as-exhibited.

In contrast to New York City, the image above is of an Alabama newspaper headline which imposed shutdowns similar to those imposed to numerous states’ governors in March under “executive orders” for a “public health emergency” which - in many states - never materialized.

Here is the Spanish Flu death rate for the state of Alabama compared to NYC:

The irony of New York's failure to look to its rather successful history should not be lost upon us, despite the tragedy of the criminal acts by Cuomo et al.

No shoes, No shirt....No Mask, No Service. Simple.

ADA requires access for the disabled and if access is denied to accomodate the persons needs. Just hand the store a 300 item shopping list and tell them you'll be back in an hour to get it. Then don't go back.

Wearing a mask in public with MAGA embossed on it has been shown statistically magnatudes more dangerous to one’s health and well being than the virus.

Conservatives may see the masks as dog collars the government is trying to get around their necks for control.

Yuppers - that's how I feel about them. The difference between subjects and free citizens.

Here is how I would explain the conflict and rage over the masks.

Imagine if President Trump ordered EVERONE to BUY A GUN or RIFLE and carry it on their person ALL THE TIME to defend themselves against thieves, murderers, wild animals, and Democrat politicians (well, actually ALL politicians).

All HELL would break loose.

Agreed—here in CT I have only seen one person without a mask in public.

(They probably lurk or post here. ;-) )

There is no name calling or finger pointing here.

When in Rome do as the Romans do—that is common sense and has nothing to do with politics.

When I am out for a walk, maskless, I only say ‘good morning’ to people not wearing masks.

I’m completely baffled at the problems people have with masks.

No problem wearing them everywhere. If anyone wants to make it a cultural or control issue, or a conservative vs liberal one, then they are an idiot as far as I am concerned. Not a hassle in the slightest, and just basic courtesy since there is a non-zero chance any given person is an asymptomatic carrier. Anyone who has an issue with wearing one is just like someone who thinks having to wipe their ass, not masturbate in public, or not drive drunk is some kind of ‘imposition on their freedoms’, a sociopath who really needs to be removed from society but who is instead just shunned and considered a pariah.

Once this thing is gone, it will be worth laughing over, but for now, if I actually ran into someone who refused to wear on in public, I’d put them in the same category as a drunk or a methed-out unbathed and urine-soaked raving homeless person, that is, deranged and not fully human.

The people who think it’s anything more than a slight extension of covering your sneeze or not spitting on people, and instead make it a political or cultural issue as the real problem, it’s simply a basic courtesy and being an adult human being.

Other people’s mileage may vary, and I sure as hell disagree with government having the power to close businesses, but masks? not even a big deal, a triviality and not any kind of an imposition.

Some slow and mentally affected people in Democrat areas desperately want masks to be related to politics. They complain about their mental maladies and blame their self-imposed isolation for those mental problems. They proceed to insult people who do as they do (”cowering in their homes,” etc.).

I haven’t seen anyone caring about others wearing masks or not in Republican neighborhoods in a more American part of the country. Democrats are as likely to go without masks as Republicans. Same with those who wear masks. Meth addicts, drunks and prostitutes don’t wear masks. With other groups, though, individuals may go either way.

The anti-mask thing seems to be coming from the anti-vaxxer camp.

Keep telling yourself that.

But in my area you are not getting into a grocery store. So, if you don’t wear a mask...eventually you don’t eat. Good for everyone.

Maybe in Vermont. In Wisconsin, I have shopped in 4 counties and none have mandated masking. I believe a few Menards (hardware) did in some areas, but they aren’t *essential*.

Besides, we prep, so we can go 3 weeks without shopping and longer for anything not perishable.

It is ridiculous when you read this weekend that perhaps the R0 is not as high as they thought; the fatalities cluster in predictable locations/demographics;some people may have natural degrees of immunity/it takes prolonged, close contact in an enclosed space to contract/there is little risk of fomite transmission. Transmission is predominately hand to mucus membrane. So, don’t let someone else pick your nose and your risk is low.

My favorite recent article discusses how there may never be a vaccine because (wait for it) there is a shortage of infected people to test.

I do find your attitude interesting and am glad I have no desire or need to visit Vermont.

Look at it this way.

The left is using the “mask” as a training step for a unisex burka ad hijab.

Can’t go outside without it or the police will get you!
