Cops search home after school reports BB gun in boy's room

Thanks to the coronavirus crisis, Courtney Lancaster got a lesson in government overreach no parent wants to learn.

But it’s one every American needs to take to heart.

The Baltimore County woman, whose son took part in online classrooms because of a coronavirus school shutdown, recently found herself facing a police officer at her door requesting to search her home because her son’s BB gun had been spotted in the background during a classroom session he joined in his bedroom.

The lesson plan for the day pretty clearly didn't involve the Second Amendment, because the “weapon” apparently alarmed someone badly enough that the viewer took a screenshot of the boy’s bedroom during an online class. The school's principal was notified, WBFF-TV reported, and the school safety officer passed the picture on to police.

Courtney Lancaster, the boy’s mother and a Navy veteran, told WBFF she had no idea what a police officer was doing at her home when he showed up June 1.

So... let’s see.

Looting Target - OK.
Burning Wendy’s - OK.
Taking over part of an American City - more than OK.
Having a BB Gun in your room - SWAT TEAM!!!!

You could knock your eye out!
I’d tell them to bring a warrant.

Further proof that Maryland is a $hithole state and the cops there are as worthless as tits on a bull.

“The police officer was, he was very nice. He explained to me that he was coming to address an issue with my son's school,” Lancaster said.

“And then explained to me that he was here to search for weapons, in my home. And I consented to let him in. And then I, unfortunately, stood there and watched police officers enter my 11-year-old son's bedroom.”

The correct response is ONLY this: "Hello, officer, I would be very glad to help with your investigation, but only with a warrant or my attorney present. Here is his/her number if you would like to meet there. Have a nice day and please leave".

More evidence Police are overfunded.

mom should have said no.

It was not so long ago schools had shooting clubs.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

So what was the final outcome of this? Poorly written article. I hope she SUES the pants off the school, the school system, etc. for invasion of privacy, and anything else she can think of. Seeing a BB gun on a wall has nothing to do with the purpose of tuning in to the lesson via a computer.

Never, ever, let anyone from the government into your home. Make them obtain a warrant no matter how nice they appear. We recently had employees from our city building codes department doing random inspections on out buildings looking for illegal power/water supply. My neighbor opened the door and the guy barged his way onto his property and cut the power to his shed without showing any authority to do so. Then he received a fine in the mail on top of that!

Sounds like the school violated their own “Safe Space” guidelines. Time to dis-enroll junior, send him to private school, and have your lawyers send the school the bills for the private school all the way through grade 12.

You are correct, but then the cop would have called Child Protective Services, forced entry, arrested the mother for endangering the child when the BB gun was found and CPS would have scooped the kid off to foster care.

It would have taken months of legal wrangling (bankrupting the family) to get the kid back.

Utterly unconstitutional, but now standard operating procedure.

“he was in violation because he could not bring weapons to class and therefore he could not bring weapons to a virtual meet.”

Huh? Whoever was responsible for writing that statement needs to be fired along with everyone else involved.

So now we have a public that has not only become compliant sheep, but is also willing to turn in its neighbors to the gestapo.

The public is the problem, along with the leftist politicians.

Sigh! I was raised in Maryland. During WWII, still a preteen, I used to shoot cottontail rabbits for dinner out of my second-story bedroom window. .22 BB Caps were available during the war for varment control if you raised chickens, and shorts were a valuable trade item in elementary school.

"It was not so long ago schools had shooting clubs"

My grandad was on the HS rifle team and on practice days he'd carry his .22 rifle on the school bus without a carry bag (couldn't afford one) and carry it to his locker until practice after school. Nary a peep out of anyone; had the ammo in his pocket.
