Coronavirus is weakening, could disappear on its own: Italian doctor

n Italian infectious disease doctor believes the coronavirus has become less dangerous — and could disappear on its own without a vaccine.

Dr. Matteo Bassetti, the head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital, said the virus appears to have become less potent, possibly due to genetic mutations, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

“The clinical impression I have is that the virus is changing in severity,” Bassetti told the outlet.

“In March and early April the patterns were completely different. People were coming to the emergency department with a very difficult to manage illness and they needed oxygen and ventilation, some developed pneumonia.”

But he said in the past month, “the picture has completely changed in terms of patterns.”

“It was like an aggressive tiger in March and April but now it’s like a wild cat,” Bassetti said. “Even elderly patients, aged 80 or 90, are now sitting up in bed and they are breathing without help. The same patients would have died in two or three days before.”

But we had Tyvek suit wearing fellow freepers preaching to us how we don’t understand science...

Idiots.

Social Distancing working?: "He said one of the reasons for the virus becoming weaker could be that it has mutated in response to social distancing measures."

"“We have fewer and fewer people infected and it could end up with the virus dying out,” Bassetti said"

"“I don’t expect it to die out that quickly,” said Dr. Bharat Pankhania, a professor at the UK’s University"

“It will if it has no one to infect. If we have a successful vaccine, then we’ll be able to do what we did with smallpox. But because it’s so infectious and widespread, it won’t go away for a very long time.”

The article title states it will disappear, then has another doctor stating it will not die out quickly. Then the last paragraph states it will be around a long time.

Which is it, the writer is not clear on what it will do. Is the New York Post a sensationalist tabloid?

But the wrong headed guidelines of masks, social distancing and the clamp down of certain amenities such as pools will be here indefinitely.

I’m still stunned that mods allowed them to take over the site for a month or two. They were literally the FR version of CHAZ.

That’s because it’s turning into a form of the common cold (people forget a number of coronavirus variants can cause the common cold).

Utter horse hockey. He’s welcome to come to TX and see the major spikes. The uber liberal mayor of Austin said you’re 3X more likely to catch CV today than you were 2 weeks ago.

End of May and first of June I had a strange “disease”. Mild dry cough for a week or two that I thought nothing of then a 5 day bout with very low fever but weakness like you have with pneumonia. That business where if you louse around doing nothing you feel sort of OK but when you get up and try to do something you tire quickly. Finally got an appointment with the doc a week after I got better. He said he had seen three other similar cases in the previous week. No idea what it was but I was sick. He said he tested one person for covid but it was negative and he says he does not believe a lot of the tests as reliable anyway.

The thing about doctors is that by the time you get an appointment you are either well or dead.

If we would not have locked down, it would already be over. Man, people should really crack a textbook sometime.....

I wonder if the common cold kill a lot of people when it first appear. I remember reading somewhere it did.

If the theory of evolution by natural selection works, the people with inferior genes should die off from the Covid-19. The virus should get rid of the weak among us, saving sociality in the long run.

The article "What’s Happening in Arizona and the Southwest is Actually Really Good COVID News" (https://theresurgent.com/2020/06/16/whats-happening-in-arizona-and-the-southwest-is-actually-really-good-covid-news/), supports the "COVID becoming less serious" hypothesis.

Even though more cases are being detected (with more testing), hospitalizations and deaths are down. This despite the fact that all hospital admissions are now tested for COVID, and all positives are counted as COVID hospitalizations, even if they didn't come to the hospital for COVID symptoms.

Deaths per day from AZ Dept of Health Services (https://azdhs.gov/preparedness/epidemiology-disease-control/infectious-disease-epidemiology/covid-19/dashboards/index.php), have dropped pretty sharply over the last week. New cases per day rose sharply from May 26 to June 15th (more testing?), but even that number has declined sharply since the 15th.

We should put a licking pole up in the village.. That should speed things up. Wait a min, is that what a vaccine is? Herd immunity.

The common cold is notorious for killing older people. That’s why older people need to actually take higher amounts of Vitamins C, D3, E and the mineral zinc per day to boost their immune systems.

Thanks for posting. If the hospitalizations stay in check the doctors can treat people who get real sick from the virus.

That was President Trump reason for the original lockdown to keep the hospital from being overrun and the development of treatment plans. It was not a lockdown forever like some people.

Hospitalization rates are going up in SC and NC, but it is manageable. No need for lock down.

Kids are your preverbial licking pole. We should have never shut down the schools, that is the single biggest mistake, among many many mistakes made.
