Judge Amy Coney Barrett has emerged as President Donald Trump's overwhelming favorite to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, according to several people familiar with the deliberations, who say the President's view was solidified during a lengthy meeting at the White House on Monday.
Trump has not finalized his decision, and with days to go until he announces his pick on Saturday, his thinking could change.
But for now, Barrett -- currently sitting on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago -- is his clear front-runner and is viewed inside the White House as the likely nominee.
A source familiar with Trump's private conversations told CNN that one of his confidants on this issue told him that this pick is so important to not only his legacy but his re-election bid that she will effectively "be your new running mate."
Judge Barbara Lagoa remains on the list but multiple people familiar with the matter told CNN that Trump is fading on the idea of picking her. While Trump was initially enthused at the prospect of nominating a Cuban-American from Florida, a critical electoral battleground, Lagoa hasn't been previously vetted for the Supreme Court and some advisers suggested it would be a heavy lift to clear a new name quickly.

I still question the politics of it but there is a certain percentage of conservative religious women who do not like the President because of his mean tweets and personality. Barrett might get them to hold their nose and forget about the tweets because he is delivering what they want. It could benefit Trump across multiple states while Lagoa is a very narrow play for Florida and possibly Arizona. Although Cubans and Mexicans have nothing in common culturally and Lagoa probably is only a Florida play. Locking up Florida is huge though. A sizeable minority of Trump voters are former democrats who only care about immigration and trade and are pro choice though so Barrett risks alienating them.
But it may not be Trump's choice anymore. Barrett is who McConnell wants and McConnell gets what he wants most of the time.
A pro-life originalist who has recently been confirmed by the senate. What’s not to like?

Whoever Trump nominates, I hope he has vetted her thoroughly and that he firmly believes she will not betray him or the people who voted him into office. I don’t want to hear about the Federalist Society or its recommendations anymore.

However, given the time crunch with this one prior to the election I do not understand the delay if it is ACB?
I believe the Republican led Committee will control the hearings so we can say...Now that’s what should happen at these hearings.
