Only the mouthbreathers on FR who don’t get that we’re lucky to get even half a Pubbie (that is, Collins) from a state like Maine. She is allowed to vote as a “moderate” when it isn’t critical, since that’s what has helped her to keep getting re-elected, but when push comes to shove, such as with Kavanaugh, she often enough delivers the vote.

With Maine’s “ranked choice voting” (RCV) — which cost the Republicans a House seat in 2018 — if Collins had “won” but with less than 50% of the total vote, RCV would kick in and Collins could very easily find herself on the short end.

This is really huge. Just for starters, it means the filibuster stays, and we'll be able to stymie any major leftist legislation with just 41 votes so we can afford to lose a few RINOs here and there.

I just checked some results in Maine. Collins had 51% of the vote, Giddeon 42%. Even if we need to go to rank choice, the 9% gap is difficult to overcome, assuming Collings drops below 50%.
