Volvo says it will make only electric vehicles by 2030. But if you want one, you’ll have to buy it online.

The Swedish automaker said Tuesday that it is phasing out the production of all cars with internal combustion engines — including hybrids.

“There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine,” said Henrik Green, Volvo’s chief technology officer.

Volvo’s announcement follows General Motors’ pledge earlier this year to make only battery-powered vehicles by 2035.

Therecwintbe a future for oil and gas until the billionaires own it. Then, it becomes a miracle fuel.

That does make sense. Electric cars are improving by leaps and bounds. Perhaps some pickups will be hybrid in 2030, and definitely commercial vehicles. But ordinary cars for most will not be ICE

For me the biggest takeaway for me here is the shift to purchasing online.

It’s certainly become a thing in the UK during 2020 - and unheard of a year earlier.

Wait till the batteries start piling up.

Wait till the fire department won't touch the car.

Wait till your garage catches on fire.

Wait!!

All still having a two hour travel time between charges.

Unless you want to drive a battery the size of a car.

I live in NYS. Banning the ICE does not make sense. Have you seen our state energy profile? Even if the cars improved by leaps and bounds, we do not and will not have the juice into run them.

Makes sense? It only makes sense if you underatand the billionaires want to sell more cars so they are making your old car obsolete and usless. And as a two-fer, they can cut your mode of transportation to 200 miles a day or stop you completely by killing the grid.. and with no oil/ diesel or gas they can isolate an entire country just by shutting off the grid. Electric cars are a total excuse to centralize government power to a very small group of people in one location. What good is your second amemdment rights if you are starving to death because farmers cant grow enough food without fossil fuels, and you cAnt bring your arms to the battle because you’ll be walking or bicycling there?

I can’t pick a better example of collective insanity than the push for “electric everything” when we’ve seen how government-controlled utilities in Texas have utterly failed to even keep the lights on.

Huge mistake. Diversity ensures survival.

Over specialization leads to extinction like the Dinosaurs.

Bye bye Volvo.

I have owned Volvos for the past 30 years, off and on.

In 2017, I leased an S90 with a turbocharged/supercharged 4 cyl engine. The car was beautifully built — like an Audi, MB, or BMW.

But, it had a control panel/user interface from hell. It was so slow that I thought it had an Intel 8088 processor and 1 MB of RAM. 2-3 second lags from touch screen controls to movement on the screen were common. I hear that in 2022, Volvo is switching to an Android platform for all of their cars. Unfortunately, no retrofits will be offered.

The engine only delivered 23 MPG at 70 MPH on long, flat trips, such as Texas to NC. The car looked aerodynamically efficient, so I blame the engine design. That poor little 4 cylinder sounded like it was in pain and struggling all of the time.

I guess the Chinese owners decided to offer a crap engine to the faithful on the way to an all-electric platform, so the electric would seem like an upgrade.

I returned the car from lease and bought a Buick Regal TourX station wagon with the global GM 250 HP turbo 4 cyl and the same Japanese 8-speed transmission as the Volvo S90. The car is discontinued here, but is really a German Opel rebranded as a Buick.

Absolutely a terrific machine. 27 to 31 MPG, built like a MB or BMW and it has the best lane control and braking software I have ever experienced.

Volvo is just making one bad decision after another and another...

Look for an increase in whole house generators. I bought one just before Michael hit. Power was off for three weeks. You could hear them running all over my neighborhood.

Tesla’s new Model S can get 400 miles on a charge.

That’s going to be a standard for many.

I don’t know about you, but my daily commute is less than 400 miles

People driving around freely is very UNCOOL to the deep state dark overlords. It give the serfs a sense of independence. Independence in movement flows into independence of thought. VERY DANGEROUS.

The Plaid+ coming later this year with nextgen batteries is over 520 miles. The price/performance in general of electrics is going to leave gas ones in the dust by around 2030 unless there’s some major roadblock.

I didn't say to ban ICE, I wrote That does make sense. Electric cars are improving by leaps and bounds. Perhaps some pickups will be hybrid in 2030, and definitely commercial vehicles. But ordinary cars for most will not be ICE

"for most".

There will of course be exceptions.

The electrical grid will need trillions to upgrade, assuming there is enough raw material to.upgrade the entire world.

I’m betting it will be a disaster.
