Having killed hundreds of Taliban myself, I know how difficult it is to beat a guerilla insurgency.

All an insurgency has to do to win is survive. To beat an insurgency, it would take the stomach to do what no one in the US has the stomach to do anymore.

If we stay long enough, will they have trannies competing in whatever women’s sports they have? “Our values” and everything.

This article title is so funny, and I fully agree with you. Also to be honest our mission was to kill UBL and AQ and we have already accomplished that, the taliban was in the way and push them out of the way we did so there is nothing to brag about, considering they want to be a poor, low intellectual nation.

If that was the only war our country lost I can live with it.

The war for America inside our borders is the one that breaks my heart.

As long as they could maintain a hundred armed raggedy-ass guerillas in their mountain sanctuaries in pakistan, it was impossible for us to “win”. All they have to do is not lose. The prc will take advantage no doubt; they do share a border with afg. They may be more successful since they don’t give a sh*t about “nation building”. All they care about is whether the rare earth minerals are being strip mined and sent to china. Look at zimbabwe; people literally starving in the breadbasket of africa but the mines were working just fine.

Of course the Taliban of today say that.

The Taliban of 20 years ago, who ran the entire country and had the balls to attack the US, are all dead. Afghanistan has had many free elections, more secure than our last one. They once thought we could not do that. We did.

It is not the fault of the US military that new young people chose to repopulate the Taliban.

The lesson? Nation building in the Middle East doesn’t work as the population’s culture does not want it. If we have to do it again just nuke the bastards and leave them in their mess.

One of the great mistakes was helping to kick out the ussr. We should have been overjoyed and helped to ensure a vodka joint at ever corner.

The bigger question is this:

What is the U.S. doing in Afghanistan, 8,000 miles away from the U.S. mainland, in the first place?

Why are we “fighting” a backwards, 3rd world hell hole that is not in any way a threat to us?

My niece (active military husband) told me last night her friend’s husband had been killed in Afghanistan.

So, he died defending the U.S.?

Our troops are 1/2 way around the world “defending ‘our interests’ (whatever they are) while our country is being invaded from the south and torn apart by violent revolutionaries every damn night.

Tell that to the widow.

“One of the great mistakes was helping to kick out the ussr. We should have been overjoyed and helped to ensure a vodka joint at ever corner.”

The super powers were involved in a dangerous and destructive game. Each tried to make trouble wherever they could for the other. No longer term objectives were in mind. It was only Carter insisting the CIA stop paying off the Ayatollah to keep him from returning to Iran, and Carter’s betrayal of the Shah that made the Jihad what it is today. Carter and the following Democrats were anti-American. I’m sure that rather than Anti-American they saw themselves as “pro-global.” But, it’s the same thing.

At the time Reagan was helping the Taliban get established the Jihad really hadn’t gotten going yet. It was only after 911 that the West noticed the Jihad was awake again and that was about a decade down the line. Hindsight is 20/20. And, American politicians don’t even have foresight. Outside American politics the average politician is ignorant and blind. Also, unteachable, as I’m certain the CIA has tried on multiple occasions to raise the alarm.

Amen! I’m of the mind set that not one more drop of US blood needs to be spilled overseas. Pull all of our troops home, close all of our foreign bases, and let those countries sort out their own problems. One American life lost fighting on foreign soil is one too many IMO.

We lost when the first trooper stepped onto Afghanistan. It was inevitable. And Bush knew it when he started this disaster. It was never supposed to end.

Very few people here of mentioned September 11th or Bin Laden.

Remember that we got into Afghanistan because of September 11th and because the Taliban were giving safe-haven to Bin Laden.

If people want to say we took our eyes off the ball at some point being in Afghanistan so long , let’s have that discussion. But when we first went into Afghanistan the Congressional resolution for that was action was virtually unanimous.

Did any of you oppose going into Afghanistan right after September 11th?,,

The defeatism on display here is an illustration of why communists have taken over the USA.

These cuckservatives won’t fight. They abandoned cities for suburbs fifty years ago, now they flee entire states. Pretty soon there won’t be anywhere to flee to.

As for the Taliban, previous generations of Americans were “indian fighters” and would have won handily in Afghanistan. The modern “kinder, gentler, methods of waging war does not work.

“Like a land version of Diego Garcia we share with the Brits.”

The Brits didn’t bomb the FoF. They weren’t fighting for anything personal there.

You can’t win a cultural war in the middle east as you can’t turn everything into sand again. Because we didn’t dominate Afghanistan, we didn’t change any minds and their idea of success is not based upon loss as they don’t feel that. They just get more radical.

Look at the thinking:

Over 100,000 people have been killed in the war, including more than 62,000 Afghan national security forces, 31,000 civilians and even more Taliban. But they say they have won. Won what?

I’m reminded of a Pythons piece in a movie they made where two knights in armor were fighting and one had both arms and legs cut off. He then asked the opponent to come over here so I can bite you. The war(?) will never end unless every one of the enemy is dead. We ain’t got enough bullets and some of them are us.
