Five people are dead, including two North Carolina sheriff's deputies, after a check on a person who did not show up for work ended in gunfire and a 13-hour standoff, authorities said.
Watauga County Sheriff K-9 Deputy Logan Fox died at the scene in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Boone, and Sgt. Chris Ward died after being flown to a local hospital, the sheriff's office said in a statement. The deputies were shot after entering the home. They were responding to a call for a welfare check Wednesday after the homeowner's employer reported that the person did not show up for work and was not answering their phone, according to the statement.

Perp murdered his family then the police when they responded.
They need to have probable cause to enter. If they looked in the window and saw some signs of violence then they have their probable cause.
My crew and I once responded to a house where the resident reported that they were having chest pain and then hung up on the dispatcher.
No one would answer the door, but I saw an open window on the 2nd floor. My crew put a ladder up and I went in through the window. As I came down the stairs I saw a naked man laying on the couch. When I asked him how he was doing he pulled a pistol out from under him, pointed it at me basically point blank and started pulling the trigger. I went out the front door with him still pulling the trigger and swearing. I requested police back up.
When the police arrived he went from the house and through the side door of detached garage still naked and carrying the gun. Then he started a lawn mower inside the garage. The police officer in charge asked if it would kill him. I said eventually but that he would pass out and we could retreive him before he died. So we sat outside waiting. We could hear some coughing and swearing and then the door opened and he came out without the gun.
The police took a look at the gun to figure out why it hadn’t gone off. Luckily for me he had loaded the 9mm cartridges into magazine backwards. He was a mental case.
He had been hoping to kill someone and then open fire on the police.
If the killer was WHITE we would know about it immediately!

Boone is not just “a town in the Blue Ridge Mountains”===it is loaded with a population of wealthy liberal elitist LEFTISTS from SOMEWHERE else— who are NOT “mountain” people in the great tradition and descendants of the frontier people who won the American Revolution particularly at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

Georgia, and many others, crossed through the area of the town of Boone on their way through what was to become Watauga County (in 1849 and Boone 23 years later in 1872)... to wipe out the last of the British presence (and the Tories helping them then) killing Brit. Col Ferguson.
The tourists who took over Boone long ago, are a bunch of Asheville Leftist joebamabidenites so we have to learn about the entire encounter to explain the raid. Could be dope, NC is a shall issue state, with different sheriffs taking different stances on RKBA. Notable were the NC and VA Sheriffs present in support of 2nd Amend. in DC— who will refuse to seize legally owned firearms. Look them up. The Sheriff of Watauga County’s position is clear, and this may be a political antagonization by the Leftists... Ambushing the Sheriff’s officers. We’ll have to see.

I thought police would use one of those bulletproof robots with a camera to enter such a dangerous environment.
I don't think they perceived the threat. It was just a welfare check, and they probably figured with 3 armed Deputies, they were safe. Sounds like they were ambushed. Killer also murdered his Mother and step father.

The “War on Police” is a war on American citizens, the law abiding ones. The Left’s policies of destruction and chaos are a boon to criminals. This will get worse, I am willing to bet. But what good it that? Any cash I could might make on such a bet, could be robbed from me at gunpoint as soon as I left the betting parlor.
The Democrats, and their Rino lapdogs have achieved the change they tout incessantly, but the change is decline, massive decline.
