In spite of pleas from Sen. Lisa Murkowski and others, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Coast Guard still say that fishing personnel must wear masks aboard boats.
For many Alaska fishermen, having a mask over their nose and mouth during fishing operations is akin to being waterboarded, as wet, slimy masks are difficult to breathe through, create visual barriers, and prevent communication.

National Fisherman provided its readers with a list of activities in which wearing a mask would create a safety hazard for onboard workers:

I know these are commercial boats, but I’ve been out on several charters over the past 9 months, and pretty much as soon as you are out of the harbor, nobody gives a damn about masks. I suspect the crews of most commercial boats will be the same.
While the cat is long since out of the bag. It was through ports that the Chinese spread this virus to most countries. Faroe Islands, The Maldives, and the Canary Islands all got the virus early last year, as did most ports that dealt with Chinese vessels. Besides Chinese students, it was the world wide system of ports that China used to spread the virus to every corner of the globe.
That being said. I am not sure there is any use for masking the fishermen now. Nor do I believe masks were ever useful.
Take them off!
Just how are they going to enforce this?
They are outside, in bracing fresh air and sunlight...
They are in NO danger and should act accordingly.

I’m sitting here on my (Sail) boat in a commercial fishing port in Southeast Alaska. Looking around at neighboring boats and shooting the breeze with passing F/V captains and crews on the floats...

Problem is there could be some Karen out there that would report them to Walter Peck at the CDC and he shut the boat down or fine them. So it needs to be addressed.

They are outside. COVID is virtually impossible to contract in that setting.
Selective enforcement of the law is the name of their game.
