It has been an excruciatingly agonizing wait for the families of the victims of the building collapse in Miami-Dade County’s town of Surfside. On Saturday, Gov. Ron DeSantis went to meet them at the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside.
Crews have been working overnight, through the rain, and even at the risk of spontaneous fires. Officials said they are doing their best to provide regular updates at the hotel. Still, some relatives are losing their patience.
“It’s not enough,” a distraught mother told DeSantis. “Imagine if your children were in there. You are going to leave here and you are going to take a nice picture. I know you are doing everything you can, but it’s not enough.”

I've read the building was primarily long term residential. That said, I suspect the building still had a high churn rate of condo owners. The people living there may have no idea the place was a ticking time ____.
Building codes are a city/county issue. It’s just playing to the ignorant to try to hang this on the governor.
Giselle Fernandez? She was at the Chicago CBS affiliate in the very late 80s...left under a bit of a cloud in the early 90s.
Being a bit too “chummy” (ahem) with your married producer and a suspected drug dealer (whose story she was covering) will do that.
No.
According to the engineering report done almost 3 years ago, there were major structural issues in the underground parking garage that needed to be addressed. Spalling, cracking, splits in the building envelope are tell-tale signs of trouble. They were all present in this complex. When the foundation gives out, the rest easily comes down.
Unlike an apartment complex, where the building is owned by a company that can raise rents to cover the repairs, this was a condominium. Each unit is individually owned. The individual owners must vote on a special assessment and pay to fund the work. The condominium only has the funds that the owners give it.
If the Board brought the issue to the community for a vote, and the community turned it down, then the OWNERS are to blame. Not the Board. Not the manager. The owners.
I know. I manage a high rise. I look for these issues constantly and, if found, address immediately. Structural engineers are my best friends.
It is the same as a homeowner ignoring a roofers recommendations to fix the hole in the roof because it only leaks every once in a while, but then being surprised when the roof caves in.
Don’t get sucked into the nonsense.
It was a condominium. Each unit is individually owned. The owners vote for people to serve on the Board. The Board runs the building.
If the Board called for a special assessment to pay for the structural issues, and the owners did not approve it, then it is the OWNERS who are at fault.
Agreed. What an completely stupid rant and an obvious ad hominem attack on DeSantis. How can “doing everything” one can do, “not enough?” Sounds like DeSantis is doing all that is possible. If this is the best attack they can muster, the DeSantis is doing a great job.
Yep, Dems, media will blame DeSantis for anything that happens and, probably, make up stuff....they will try their best to take him down. imho, local paper already started.
Almost forgot about the Hartford current which is nowadays 90% reprints of Associated Press Articles, 9% leftist biased reporting about what happens within the city of Hartford, ignoring things like crime, etc. And 1% biased reporting about local news.
Got it. Thanks, I was thinking rental apartments.

Her is Zillow link to the property while it is still on-line.
I agree. Most of the local stations aren't owned by locals anymore.
“Desantis staff has to stop being naive”
Who says they are being naive, except you. You think they don’t know that they will be sabotaged by Dems at every turn? How are you going to stop them from accusing DeSantis of everything including the kitchen sink? Free speech you know.
DeSantis is pretty good at rebuttal at most bull they throw at him. No moss grows on DeSantis. He’ll take care of himself. Won’t stop the opposition from throwing slop at him every chance they get. He knows this; doesn’t need your advice to tell him the obvious.
Gravity is a bitch.
Another fundamental tenant of communist propaganda...
Not much doubt where her politics lay...
"Hey DeSantos! What are you doing? Holding up the building?"
Miami is a Dem city, and so you can expect is rife with corruption:
