President Biden on Friday will direct the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to work with states on importing prescription drugs from Canada, and direct officials to develop a “comprehensive plan” to lower drug prices in 45 days.
The moves are part of the health care section of a wide-ranging executive order on promoting competition in the economy that Biden is poised to sign on Friday afternoon.
Allowing imports of cheaper drugs from other countries was part of Biden’s health care plan during the campaign, but Friday’s move is a step forward to take action on that front.

Didn’t we used to make stuff here? Since most of the newer drugs are developed in this country, why do we have to import stuff from Canada? Those imports should be limited to wood products, Molson, and hockey players.

Some of these are technically ‘reimportations.’ Many of these drugs are manufactured here (or in Puerto Rico) and then exported to countries like Canada. The catch is Canada - for a variety of reasons - pays SIGNFICANTLY less for the drugs than US consumers do. So, it’s quite frequently cheaper to reimport the drugs from Canada (and other countries) than it is to buy them from your local US pharmacy.
There’s a reason drug companies sued Trump when he tried the same thing and this is the reason. It undercuts the premium prices they’re charging US consumer who are, in a very real way, underwriting the socialized medicine that Canada provides to its citizens.
Ah, but you see Biden can now take credit for this act and “media” outlets like The Hill and other leftist rags will not address the fact that Trump had already done this.
That was my first thought - Trump already fixed this and then President Retard screwed it up and now want to find a stupid way to solve the problem he created by imported drugs from the same companies based here that Trump forced to control pricing.

American drug companies export drugs to be reimported all the time. That’s where a lot of the Fentanyl comes from.
And yet I can’t buy the drugs at Canadian prices either on-line or going to Canada to buy them and drive them back here myself. Something very wrong with the process. Too bad President Trump could not get that cleaned up during his first 4 years. Lesson learned for the next time we get a President who is more concerned with American citizens than American subsidiary of global corporations.
