The U.S. added 943,000 jobs in July as a summer rush of travel and recreation spending powered the economy through surging coronavirus cases, the Labor Department reported Friday.
The unemployment rate fell to 5.4 percent in July from 5.9 percent last month, according to the monthly jobs report, as employment growth exceeded the 850,000 consensus job gain projected by economists.
The U.S. was expected to see another strong month of job growth as consumers spent the summer enjoying activities restricted by the coronavirus pandemic.

How does this unemployment percent jive with the number of people lolling about collecting unemployment, stimulus, and other bennies?? BTW, I note yesterday a product I routinely buy is up 10% from last week. Could it possibly be due to the amount of free script sloshing about the country.
Most of this was a result of Red states rejecting further Federal unemployment benefits.

Probably a bulk of these are people being forced back to work after the extra $200 a week in benefits got cut off.

Michigan ended the waiver on having to report your job searches weekly, and suddenly the unemployment rolls fell.
