The NYPD on Thursday suspended four officers caught on video failing to take action when someone fired off a gun, apparently shooting himself in the leg, on a Harlem street corner.

The cops were suspended without pay for the incident at the corner of 136th St. and Seventh Ave. on Monday night, an NYPD spokesman said.

The officers, two on foot patrol and two in a patrol car, were on a “crime reduction” assignment as they watched a group of men drinking and gambling and a shot was fired.

The article says they never reported the shooting incident, describing it instead as ‘fireworks’.
So this may be the real reason for suspensions.

This was not police business; authorities should have sent a social worker to talk with community citizens about choices which lead to less-than-favorable outcomes.

Can’t blame the cops. If they make a mistake they can be sued civilly and lose everything they have. Let the winos shoot each other and clean up the mess or call a social worker.
