I did say “usually”-and Elizabeth and William were a rare exception-especially at that time-but at least neither of them was a commoner-so it was just a matter of Phillip/his family not having as much influence/political clout as some other noble guy-if he had been less than noble I would bet that history would have been different...

Victoria and Albert were also a love match. It wasn't unheard of.

Phillips uncle was Constantine I was the King of Greece, Philip’s maternal grandfather, Prince Louis of Battenberg, was German so right after WWII, Phillip was viewed with suspicion. His family lost Greece during the Greco-Turkish War.
