They are a distinct minority in their own party and, for that matter, their country: Republican holdouts amid an ever-widening consensus that Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine poses a mortal threat to American interests.
A far right wing of the Republican Party tightly bound to former President Donald Trump is fighting to push the GOP toward the “America First” isolationism that underpinned his 2016 presidential bid.
For the first time since Trump’s rise, his party is pushing back.
That much was clear from the House vote Thursday on a bill ending normal trade relations with Russia as punishment for attacking Ukraine. A total of 202 Republicans joined with 222 Democrats in voting to allow the Biden administration to raise tariffs on Russia, a rare bipartisan consensus in an era of fierce polarization.
Eight Republicans voted against the measure, including Trump loyalists like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. In a speech on the House floor Thursday, Greene gave a succinct summary of an America First argument that has been getting little traction in the face of deepening sympathy for the Ukrainians’ suffering. After objecting to the abundant attention the war is getting, she said that what “real Americans care about are gas prices that they can’t afford,” inflation and security along the southern border.

There is no doubt Russia is the aggressor here, I don’t condone their actions at all, but don’t think for one minute that I think we should be sending our kids to die for UKraine.
If you want to have a hot war with Russia then our goal should be unequivocally to march all the way to Moscow…. Not an easy task or one o have any confidence our political class would follow through on.

Completely avoidable war, and no Americans should be dying to bail Z out of his stupidity…. No doesn’t mean I agree with Russia’s actions, but Z’s complete idiotic behaviors and lack of understanding geopolitics…. Along with a dementia puppet in the white house and sycophants in Europe are why we are where we are.

Biden is hated. He is propped up by the deep state, the media, and money that is thrown far and wide to zombies who support him. He could parade around with Putin’s head in a skillet and only our freeper Ukraine trolls would gloat and cheer him. It wouldn’t do crap for his popularity except in media polls which would give him the same approval as W. Bush.

I was one, too. I fell for the propaganda, and the arrogant, childish idea of “Spread Democracy to The World!” crowd.
So much wrong comes from sticking our nose in other people’s business. Who appointed us God? All it brought was failed interventions, millions dead, and half the world hates us for it.
The “Regime Change!” crowd is mentally ill. They can’t accept reality. They think they can remake the world in their own image.
So arrogant, and so wrong.
