KILLEEN, Texas -- Fort Hood likely will be renamed Fort Cavazos after a blue-ribbon commission recommended that the Confederate-named Army base receive a new name along with eight other military bases nationwide. The Naming Commission, which was created by Congress and is responsible for recommending new names or removal of names and symbols that commemorate Confederate figures within the Department of Defense, called for Fort Hood to be named after Gen. Richard Cavazos, a native Texan and the Army's first Hispanic four-star general. The Army's largest active-duty armored post, with about 40,000 soldiers, was named after Gen. John Bell Hood, who led the Confederate Army's Texas Brigade during the Civil War.
No U.S. military bases are named for a Hispanic service member. U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, pushed for the name change along with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
The commission also recommended changing the name of Fort Bragg in North Carolina to Fort Liberty, and Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia to Fort Walker - for Dr. Mary Edwards Walker who was a suffragist, prisoner of war and surgeon - among others. The commission will make its recommendations to Congress, then it will be then sent to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin for final approval.
"I'm grateful to The Naming Commission for their recommendation to rename Fort Hood for Richard Cavazos," Castro said on Twitter Tuesday.
While I disdain the current batch of woke stupidity it should be noted that John Bell Hood was a piss poor general.

Hell name it Fort Biden...
May as well...this country had gone to hell.....
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I retired 20 years ago. Feel very badly for people still on AD who have to deal with this woke s**t on a daily basis.
Prayers up for them!
Agreed. But everyone in Texas has heard of Fort Hood. Where is Fort Cavazos?
Fort Pancho Via 🤪
Fort Cisco Kid.
Fort Felicia Rashad.
Fort Liberace.
Fort Christine Jorgensen.
Villa
Hood was OK under Lee commanding Texans. Lee politely recommended against giving him a higher job. Joseph Johnston kept retreating towards Atlanta. He had earlier retreated toward Richmond, before getting wounded and was temporarily replaced by Lee, which became permanent. So they put Hood in charge of the remaining Confederate army in the west. He ignored Sherman in Georgia and reinvaded Tennessee and destroyed his army. Seems like sort of a joke to name the base for him to the first place.
However, FU to these sorts of changes.
They should rename Ft. Bragg to Ft. Fredendall, another incompetent General.
Rename it Fort Rachel Levine.
Everything is race to the Democrats. Everything is race to a racist.
And who really GAFF? They weren't named after generals who were good.
How about Fort Antonio de Padua MarÃa Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón? Affectionately known as General Santa Anna.
Fort MachobLibre.
Fort Cavazos , that’s a mouthful and no ring
That’s who Joaquin Castro would like to name it for.
He thinks the wrong side won the Mexican-American war, and Texas should belong to Mexico.
Name it Fort Nidal Hasan after the Army Major who murdered 13 soldiers and wounded 30 others; this murderer was pushed through the ranks due to a Democrat agenda and still breathes to this day.
Fort Santa Anna?
“They weren’t named after generals who were good.”
I daresay that was My point in the first place. Which you apparently missed.
