IS IT IMMORAL TO DRIVE AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE?
Powerline ^ | June 9,2022 | BY JOHN HINDERAKER

Ronald Stein makes excellent points in his column titled “Is it ethical to purchase a lithium battery powered EV?”

The lower image is just one lithium supply mine where entire mountains are eliminated. Each mine usually consists of thirty-five to forty humongous 797 Caterpillar haul trucks along with hundreds of other large equipment. Each 797 uses around half a million gallons of diesel a year. So, with an inventory of just thirty-five the haul trucks alone are using 17.5 million gallons of fuel a year for just one lithium site. *** Today, a typical EV battery weighs one thousand pounds. It contains twenty-five pounds of lithium, sixty pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminium, steel, and plastic. Inside are over 6,000 individual lithium-ion cells.

It should concern you that all those toxic components come from mining. For instance, to manufacture each EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for just one battery.

Green” energy is a catastrophically bad idea. I think many people understand that wind and solar power and electric vehicles are economically ruinous, but when we also take into account environmental degradation and child and slave labor, one can seriously question whether it is immoral to buy an electric car.

The call to transition to Electric vehicles is a distraction. Once gas powered vehicles are gone they will go after the other kind as well. The long term goal is to eliminate the automobile.

No. They are. Unfortunately, the main source of Rainbow Dust is controlled by the Communist Chinese.

We’ll not talk about the “efficiency and cleanliness” of solar cell and windmill production. Of course, math is not only not a friend of liberals/leftists/other like-minded loons, it is an absolute enemy.

The author is conflating a bunch of different things, and I notice that he doesn’t even mention nuclear power, which we really ought to be doing.

The left is conflicted about EVs right now, because they don’t want to help Elon Musk or be on the same side as him. You can bet that they’d still love EVs if Soros or Gates were selling them instead of Musk.

“ Once gas powered vehicles are gone they will go after the other kind as well.”

They won’t even have to go after them. They will be worthless hunks of metal and plastic. The electrical energy necessary to power them will never be produced…for the same “climate change” reasons they are destroying gas-powered vehicles. And the production of electricity is firmly regulated and controlled by the same totalitarian government that is now destroying us.

There will never be enough electricity for personal vehicle transportation. That is easy for the fascists to ensure.

Electric vehicles are extremally damaging for the environment.
But, not in the soccer mom’s backyard.

“… he doesn’t even mention nuclear power, which we really ought to be doing.”

But which this woke, climate change obsessed society and the totalitarian government that now rules it, will never allow. It will never happen. Not here.
