A New York woman has been arrested after allowing her 10-year-old son to get a large tattoo of his name in block letters across his forearm, police said.
Crystal Thomas, 33, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child and released on an appearance ticket.
The boy was staying in a motel with his mother and older sibling when he learned that a man in neighboring room could give him a tattoo.
His mother allowed him to go next door and get the tattoo and did not supervise him, police said.
The tattoo was identified by the school nurse after the 10-year-old boy went to them to have Vaseline applied over it.

In Michigan the Whitmer approved constitutional amendment on the Nov. ballot as Proposal 3 would prevent notification of parents if a school staff member started giving hormone injections to start a gender change or sterlization process.
No notification or consent for an abortion, either.

She could abort him but have him get a tattoo.
She could have his genitalia mutilated or removed. Governor Gruesome of California signed an illegal law saying the same, and even expanded it to include any grooming target in the other 49 states.
The State gave up any say about parental behavior towards their children.

You summed it up perfectly. If the kid wanted his junk cut off—no problem.
While I don't think it is a great idea for anyone to get a tattoo, least of all children, in the scheme of the current zeitgeist it's a nothing burger.
