The vote on the bill was made as part of the deal between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and members of the House Freedom Caucus and was pushed forward in his quest for the gavel...

Read reply #20 very carefully: BTW its how the Democrats pass their agenda. They start at the fringe, get rejected, but keep it alive until they control the agenda and the votes - Obamacare, gay marriage, CO2 controls, etc...

Same principle as the “Fair Tax”, without all the gimmicks.

You’re right, we should just give up. It was silly of me to think that trying to improve things was a good idea.

It also forces illegals to pay taxes. The largest benefit by far.

What a great observation!!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Read my tagline and the history of my comments. Unlike many, I’m hardly acquiescing to any thing short of recovering our Free Constitutional Republic.

But half-assed measures, those that do more harm than good, and/or those that do not address the real problem (the $3+ trillion unconstitutional portion of the feds) are just make-work that looks like a solution that either makes matters worse and/or simply delays what really must be done.

“but first close the borders and stop the mad rush to insanity that biden started.”

I want that too, but Congress can’t do that. All they can do is pass more laws that Biden won’t enforce.

That will harm retirees who don’t make much and fly under the radar
when it comes to income taxes.

Under the consumption tax, they will likely take a thousands of dollars hit.

It’ll reach into other areas of the population too, and harm them; just give it time as the IRS (it won’t ever be abolished or defunded) gets new rulings and its claws into more segments of the population.

I see it as a revenue enhancer.

I do agree with your take on it also.

consumption tax = sales tax

a town up the road from me has a 3.9% sales tax
add to that 6.1% that goes to the state and the county
so sales tax is already 10%

then if the government wants a piece of the pie...up up up the sales tax goes

I propose that the feral government starts closing down ERA, CIA, NEA...

Of course not. But Mitch won’t kill it in committee. He’s got Chucky to do that and call the Freedom Caucus “extremists” and then Mitch will say, “they sure are extremists, Chucky. But I’m a good Republican. I don’t want to abolish the IRS. Nosireebob. Not me. Unh unh. That’s not who we are. Nope.” Then he’ll get a pat on the head and a liva snap, and wag his turtley tail.

Looks good on paper, but they know it will never happen.

How would they pit one group against the other? How would they be able to control the lemmings? They all belong to the same "club" so we know it will never happen.

“Virtue, professed by frauds, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Maybe they can vote to repeal Obamacare again since there’s no chance it will ever pass.
