COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s restrictive new election law significantly shortens the window for mailed ballots to be received — despite no evidence that the extended timeline has led to fraud or any other problems — and that change is angering active-duty members of the military and their families because of its potential to disenfranchise them.
The pace of ballot counting after Election Day has become a target of conservatives egged on by former President Donald Trump. He has promoted a false narrative since losing the 2020 election that fluctuating results as late-arriving mail-in ballots are tallied is a sign of fraud.
Republican lawmakers said during debate on the Ohio legislation that even if Trump’s claims aren’t true, the skepticism they have caused among conservatives about the accuracy of election results justifies imposing new limits.
The new law reduces the number of days for county election boards to include mailed ballots in their tallies from 10 days after Election Day to four. Critics say that could lead more ballots from Ohio’s military voters to miss the deadline and get tossed.
This issue isn’t confined to Ohio.
Three other states narrowed their post-election windows for accepting mail ballots last session, according to data from the nonpartisan Voting Rights Lab. Similar moves pushed by Republican lawmakers are being proposed or discussed this year in Wisconsin, New Jersey, California and other states.

Under normal circumstances, the 4 day limit should be more than enough. Right now I am lucky if I get mail once a week due to the worker shortage at the USPS - as is just about everyone else in MN.
I can’t imagine that military “mail in ballots” have much of an impact besides incredibly close elections .
“— despite no evidence that the extended timeline has led to fraud or any other problems — “
That statement in itself is fraud and lie and a form of Election interference.
AP is garbage, unfit for a bird cage.
From what I can tell from this, military members still have plenty of time to vote, it is the county election boards who need to get their act together.
Problem is, this would eventually be expanded to everyone.
Mail can be painfully long depending on where you're deployed. When I was on a CVN, mail came regularly. When I was deployed on a DDG, it was painfully slow and I wouldn't at all be surprised if there were circumstances when Sailors received their ballots after the election had ended.
I don't know if there are any documented cases of this but I do know there were times when I waited 6-8 weeks for Amazon packages to arrive. Logistics places a higher priority on delivering mission-essential items over personal mail.
States that favor the left only count mail in ballots if they need them.
Why is a universal common access voter ID a bad Idea?
Most county election boards meet within two weeks of election day. Military ballots and overseas ballots are given a little slack and generally counted right up until the meeting day. State law generally permits this minimal exception.
I believe that voting should require some effort on the part of the voter and not be so simple that the laziest, most disinterested members of the populace are partaking in it.
Any claim like that without accurate and detailed numbers pf deliveries by day is the same as "without evidence."

AP - America’s Pravda uses one black retired military to make its point, which barring any sort of data to prove it, is mendacious.
The Presstitutes don’t give and honest damn about military votes
Unless they can use the situation to sling shit and efforts to straighten out the lection system
They went out and found some pinheaded idiot and their slug dependents, fed them some bullshit lines and published it as a problem.
All playing off everyone’s natural affinity for the military
I just want common sense European style Ballot control laws.
Those problems are not new, and I’m not saying they’re not an issue, but I don’t think this law makes it worse. I think the law targets the vote counters. Can service members away on deployment vote electronically nowadays?
I remember when you had to request an absentee ballot, with a reason, and they warned you it had to be received on or before election day.
Done reading right there. Then saw it was the AP, so not surprised.
Mail-in ballots should be ONLY for military and medically housebound, no one else.
You won't convince me that mail-in balloting hasn't aided and abetted vote fraud. My neighbor received three ballots in 2020 at her residence, one for someone who hadn't lived there in a decade, the other was unknown.
Vote harvesting of mail-in ballots is legal in California - funny how they're ALL for the Democrats, isn't it?
