'Bush's Brain' says CPAC straw poll would be 'completely meaningless.' More evidence is emerging that Karl Rove is a big fan of Ron DeSantis as the 2024 GOP Presidential Primary field shakes out.
In comments on the Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom, the former George W. Bush adviser lauded DeSantis for his decision to skip the Conservative Political Action Conference later this week and to “very smartly” take a “measured” approach toward a 2024 rollout.
“Take, for example, this weekend. Rather than going to CPAC — which is a completely pro-Donald Trump crowd and having a number at the end that weekend where he’s made an appearance, and then there’s a straw poll and Trump wins the straw poll — rather than that, what’s he doing? He’s going to Dallas and Houston, Texas, and Orange County, California and speaking to the Republican county committees,” Rove said.
“They’re big galas in each one of those places, making a lot of friends and avoiding what is going to be a sure story at the end of it. ‘Oh, well, he came here and he obviously didn’t make a big impact, because Trump still took the CPAC straw poll,’ which is completely meaningless but nonetheless would be the story coming out of the weekend.”

“That makes no sense - why would they have Trump doing better in urban then?”
There are all kinds of possibilities. But first off, just to be clear, we’re talking percentages, not absolute numbers. Trump likely increased his total vote count across all categories of voters from 2016 to 2020, since, even by the official vote count, he got 12 million more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016.
But as far as percentages go Trump could have remained the same, or even increased with soccer moms, while increasing with urban voters by a larger amount. His approval among blacks and hispanics improved between 2016 and 2020. The distortions caused by weighing their polling results to fit false vote totals could have been enough to give the appearance that Biden won soccer moms, but it wasn’t enough to totally erase Trump’s increase with urban voters.
Or, like all the other polls, he is doing atrociously with suburban women
Good catch. I hadn’t even noticed the date. But just by reading the article it was obvious that it was satirical.
“In 2020, Biden won Suburbs 54-43%, or a 13% swing in total. Most of that swing came from suburban women”
There was so much cheating and fraud in Biden’s favor that any stats are skewed.
No telling what the real numbers were.
Yes, and very funny.
Why would all of the cheating be in suburbs and not in Blue cores like Urban which showed a shift to Trump? That makes no sense. And besides this is simply polling, not vote counting. And this polling matches up very well with my Charlotte suburb and work area.
