An Alabama fifth-grade girls' basketball team have been denied their championship trophy after being forced to join a boys' league - and then beating all their opponents.
Spain Park girls' team, from Hoover, Alabama, were reportedly told at the start of the season that they would not be able to train at the local gym facilities unless they joined the boys' league.
In response, they did exactly that and went on to win the championship - only to be told that the trophy would instead be handed to the runners-up that they'd just beaten in the final.

Tell that to Isabella Cepak or Sabrina Nauss who had to compete against boys most of their lives.
The deal here apparently was that there wasn’t a local league for the girls and they had to pay to practice in the gym. Part of that deal was that they could compete in the boys’ league, but not receive the trophy if they won.
IMO the solution in that case should have been that 2 trophies would have been awarded had they won—and it sounds like that is how the city will resolve it.
It surprised me, but Hoover is a relatively affluent city of over 60k. So I am not sure how the girls’ opportunity could have been so limited.
So, you apparently believe that women should be allowed on men’s sports and 250lb men should treat them as men and hit them with everything they have.
That makes you an ally of the transgender movement. They also believe that men should compete against women.

In my view, that’s what entrepreneurialship is for. They didn’t have a league today, so they should get busy to create one, so they might have one for next season or the next. In any city of 60,000, there has to be at least 24 girls that might be interested in playing basketball.
However, having said that, I don’t mind girls playing against the boys for practice and enjoyment of the game. I just don’t think they should be competing with each other.
Until a league is created, it should have remained an exhibition type game when the two genders played.
I was thinking the same thing. My daughters’ 5th/6th girls team could keep up with any of the boys in the CYO league. 18 months later? The boys would have crushed them.
I don’t understand why they had to join in the first place. They had been playing for 3 years but then couldn’t use a gym. Had they been using the facilities before without having to pay? I understand the mother is disappointed, but they knew from the beginning that they wouldn’t get a trophy. The problem I see is there seems to be no girls league for them. Why was that?
Yeh...My granddaughter said...what happened...He’s 6 ft, 180 and buff. I’m 5’2” and called “little”.
My daughter wrestled boys up through 8th grade.
There were a handful of boys who absolutely kicked her butt, but since she was bigger and typically stronger (the kid absolutely loves working out and lifting weights), she more than held her own because her technique was typically better.
Her Freshman year in High School, she ended up as a starting guard on the JV football team (they weren’t very good) but she got the position because she was (is) tough and actually took time to learn the plays, which the boys she replaced couldn’t seem to do.
However, once she got to high school, all she does now is wrestle the girls and we’re 100% ok with that.
At CPAC Riley Gaines spoke. She’s the one who was forced to compete against Lia Thomas — that male swimmer pretending to be female.
She’s so good that she tied with the male. There was only one trophy, so they gave it to him instead of her. She was allowed to have her picture taken with the trophy, but he took it home. When she asked why, they told her something I can’t recall verbatim, but the reason was to promote lgbwhatever.
Not just boys. Bureaucrats, as do many millions of adult Americans, truly enjoy hurting children. As the driving force behind this severe mental illness among people in positions of authority over children isn’t money, it must be the result of some deep-rooted, uncontrollable sexual need.

I’m glad I have no tranny in my family that I’m aware of. I’m just pointing that it isn’t good for society to develop an ethicacy where it is acceptable for men and women to be competitors of each other.
Socialists want men and women to compete against each other, because a person’s worth in a socialist society is based on what material goods he can produce and that person doesn’t have an inherent value otherwise.
We are better than that, at least I am.
Boys/girls lay the foundation for men/women. The values we teach them is what they grow up to have. I just thought everybody knew on this forum knew that, so it surprises me when I come across somebody with a socialist/humanist outlook on FreeRepublic.

Men cannot fully be themselves when they have to take into an account a female that they have to compete with. It’s biological and immasculating.
That’s OK, the soccer team megan rapino was on was beat by high-school boys soccer team.

We all have differences of opinion and no way in heck are you going to cookie-cutter me to fit what YOU think should be the COORECT mindset on FR. Doing so would be very hiveminded of you, a trait most assuredly practiced by commies and socialists.
In general, I agree with you on separate leagues, based on actual sex.
That is in effect what they did in this circircumstance, except, again, I would have settled in advance on giving them a second trophy, which would have in effect been an exhibition trophy for them.
Also, at this age for this sport in a small town, a coed league would IMO have been acceptable (3xcept, again, this isn’t a small town.)
